It sounds interesting, and not a subject that I have read a great deal. Being a "picker" was a subject covered in one of the Kay Bratt books who writes about life of the poor in China. I was amazed at the ability to survive that role in what I consider deplorable conditions. I will add this book to my wish list at Paperback Swap. Hopefully I will be able to read it soon.
