John....I think you should go back and recalculate. I figured my check-off up and it is more like $2.00 per acre depending on the crop but definitely between $1.80 & $2.30
I have a neighbour who was a director and said the politics within the Board is as bad or worse than in Toronto or Ottawa. Lots of cut throat stunts by the current chair and even some by the previous chair, so no thanks!

The public meetings are designed to gain support for Glen Murray's govt position.GFO has been participating in the Bee Health working Group and conferring with the govt since the summer of 2012 when this 1st gained attention. GFO has led the discussions and encouraged members, industry, beekeepers and govt to work together and reach solutions. Indeed, farmers and industry have made substantial changes that have already led to significant improvements. They should continue this type of worthwhile dialogue. These public mtgs will simply supply an opportunity for individuals and groups to state their opposition to all pesticides and herbicides.
John: I estimate GFO membership costs to be less than $.75 per acre. Personally, I think they have accomplished a great deal but if you think otherwise, you should run for election to the board.

I fail to see how providing a balanced and educated farmer based viewpoint at a public input forum is a bad thing. If GFO knows or assumes that the forums will be used by others to present opinions and information that is not accurate, it should be even more imperative to correct and counter. Unfortuneately he who speaks first is often assumed to be correct. More so if that is the only speach to be heard. GFO should consider asking all farmers to come to these meetings to support and provide the data and information that may be lacking. This also would show others that the issue is important enough to the farm community that they made time to show up.

The poll results clearly show that GFO has dropped the ball once again. With their high check-offs and bloated salaries (Senft makes over $300,000. a year, the chair over $40,000.) surely they could do better than act like a spoiled kid that didn't get what it wanted. Now after kissing this Government's butt ever since they came to power they are protesting! Grow up GFO!
