What grade do you give the 'Gracepoint' finale?

After investing so much time in the first four episodes on Prime Video during the pandemic, I felt a certain obligation to follow it through to the finish. This was one of those soapy dramas that would have been much better shortened to four at the most, It was dragged out; and, I guess in the name of character development, included too many details and probably too much disaster.

Tennant has such a fine reputation that I kept hoping that that alone would justify the series. It was jarring, for one thing, to see his hair go from obviously-dyed black to obviously-colored reddish to brown to a somewhat natural tone of black. Seeing the whole series in a day and a half may have given that a more pronounced effect on the show as a whole. He is addictive, I'll give him that; but those few strands of hair (meant to be casual and I guess sexy) falling across his forehead and sometimes almost in his eyes were more of a distraction than anything.

The rest of the cast could have come from the daytime soaps -- as was the script. So much agony. So many problems. Every imaginable insurmountable circumstance and lifestyle and sexual perversion and inhibition and significant moment in the whole of humanity (except, thankfully, war and famine) was encapsulated in this one almost unbearable series. I almost could not stomach watching the final two episodes, but that is where "they" catch you: you have to know the ending. I must admit that midway I did check online to find out who the killer was, so I didn't have to continue playing the interminable guessing game; but it was so improbable that simply going away without filling in the missing parts was too difficult.

The answer to my dilemma is not to start watching these "miniseries" in the first place. Self-isolation makes us all do things we regret. This was a big regret for me!

I am disappointed to hear that the show has been cancelled. It would have been interesting to see what might have happened to Carver in the future. I really wanted to find out if he revisited the case he messed up by letting his wife off the hook about the lost evidence. Could he go back and solve that case?
I really enjoyed the show and I thought it keep me guessing until the very end. I feel the show might have had a better chance if it had not been placed opposite Shondaland on channel 7. Those are 3 powerful shows and nothing could beat them. Secondly, it was not advertised very well. Shondaland screamed mystery and escitement and questions waiting to be answered, while Gracepoint was barely noticable, barely mentioned in its promos. It deserved better. I introduced several friends to the show and they were hooked right away.
