Chris - your a clown. obviously they are giving Smith a chance early on just like they did with Clarke, they are looking at the next era of cricketers and Smith seems to be the most sensible of the lot of them. but I do agree I think he should be vice captin.

to steve smith "Drinking MILO is working for you kid"

The appointment of a kid like Smith as captain & the support he received proves the fact that more than 90% of cricket audience are (kids & some adults with childish nature like smith). Since, i am a adult, i am disgusted with this decision and since i am someone who has a good foresight, i can see that the future of cricket isn't good.
I wish i was in indian team, so that i could bully this kid & sledge non-stop "Kid, tea time for us, but your milk is over there".
Although watson's batting isn't upto the mark. He is the only sensible choice as captain. He's a strong man which makes for a strong looking australia. I'm sure kids won't agree with me. Who cares about them anyway.

Wise choice by the selectors for appointing Steve as captain
    but
We also need a wicket keeper who can bat
    and
Thank Siddle for his past services

Haddin has made a wonderful contribution to Australian cricket but his batting is in decline. Keeping and captain is too onerous and if his form dives, how do you sack the captain? Much better to give the young gun the chance to develop with Brad on board. Steve seems to be a fine young man - wish him every success as captain.

AUSTRALIA WILL SURE LOOSE THIS TEST SERIES BCOZ SMITH IS THE CHILD IN FRONT OF DHONI

Not good. We have a young batsman on a roll of good form and they put the extra burden of captaincy on him. I don't know where the selectors get their thinking on this one!

So after a difficult few years in and out of the team Smith has started to find form. It therefore makes perfect sense to burden him with the test captaincy.
Like Kim Hughes I can only see this ending in tears.

I'd like to see Haddin Captain and Smith Vice Captain. They should both work in unison, while sharing and discussing decisions on the field. Steve will be captain soon enough . Haddin knows that Smith would be his successor. Put Smith under Haddins wing and maybe make a few decisions...talk them through with Haddin and go from there. A lot of cricket to be played 2014 / 15 and by the end of this home season....give Smith a go...I just hope that what ever happens doesn't effect his batting. Good luck

I think its great. he has shown hes talent with bat and in the field. im sure the captaincy will bring out more talent in him.

  • Prince Othi - 9 years ago

You can't give captaincy to anyone who just a match performed well, whereas 33 years old Shane Watson, having good command & expercience under his belt should be the 2nd Captain in Test Series. Unsatisfactory surprise choice this was by auscricket. Let's see match consequence. Good luck 45th test captain.

Brad is the best choice for captain right now, and right now is what's important.

Captaining and keeping is difficult but Brad Haddin can do both standing on his head.

Wise choice with the future in mind

  • Nick - 9 years ago

Brad Haddin is too old and keeping and captaining is too taxing.
Also, who else is there? Nobody.
