Hammer, Ross, et al succeeded in aligning theory and practicality in their article on managing the safety of a motor vehicle fleet. This article was a success story, but also one that a safety practitioner could actually put to use - it was relevant, dynamic, well focused and insightful. It also showcases the expertise of ASSE members and the purposeful actions of our Society to choose to bring leadership to the crafting of meaningful consensus standards. This was a positive and motivating article that could spring a reader to take positive, immediate action resulting in a safer work environment.

Sidney Dekker is a true thought leader. As researcher, lecturer, professor, pilot and human error consultant, Dekker's article in PSJ made it clear that we can't continue to try to manage safety as we have. The time has come to change our overall view and adopt the concept of "safety differently"; rather than the human as the source of the problem, they are the solution.
