How should I handle this sitch?

Assign each family member a drawer or cabinet and have them move into it. That way they will take better care to maintain it.

Allow each family member to have only one food item and one medical item per shopping term. That way if we run out, we know who is on the hook. No sharing allowed.

Vote people off the island. I don't know what this has to do with the issue at hand, but I kind of always wanted to drop that into a conversation.

Put secret fingerprint dust on family members while they sleep. Then when I find nonsense, I can check for prints.

Install nanny-cams under washcloths, in cereal boxes, and in other likely locations of tomfoolery. It may or may not catch someone in the act, but it was worth it to be able to use the word tomfoolery twice in one sentence.

Oh do I know this story all too well. For the most part, now that all inhabitants of the house are over the age of consent, we have managed to eliminate the frustrations of finding empty cereal and cracker boxes in the pantry. However the empty tubes of ointment, empty band-aid boxes, and empty bottles that used to contain shampoo or cream rinse that sit forgotten in the shower....those things remain a battle.

I have no surefire suggestion. I live alone with 2 fourleggeds. So like you, I plan ahead re supplies, and always have a shopping list going. My comment to myself, is I like the order, but I really miss the kids and their mess, and umm -- inconsideration! I take my pick!
At my grandchildrens' in Nov and Dec the college age boys have taken to leaving the toilet seat up in the dressy guest bathroom -- and blaming it on the dog!
