What should he do?

Your brother considers your daughter to be a non Jew, according to Torah law. How can you celebrate the bat mitzva of a non Jew- non Jews are not obligated in mitzvot, which is the meaning of the celebration!! From his viewpoint, what you are asking him to do makes no sense and is blatantly wrong! He loves you and your family but can not compromise his belief. Don't ask him to do wht he cannot.

Fascinating and extremely telling that nearly twice as many respondents felt that their own hurt feelings should drive the brother's decision. Judging from the comments though it seems that a little ortho bashing will make everything OK. Truly sad.

There is no mention of the daughter being accepted as Jewish outside the Reform movement. If neither she nor her mother had any sort of conversion, even the Conservative movement would not accept her as Jewish.

It is one of the absurdities of Jewish life... that amongst ourselves we have so many differences. It should not matter and there should be no issue whatsoever. Family should be prioritized.
I have raised my children in a predominately orthodox community, where they were shunned by our neighbors. It was disgusting, and continues to be disgusting. Don't we as Jews, have enough hate against us to hate our own people???????
