Expulsion: fair or overly harsh?

The way those girls (because they didn’t portray themselves as young ladies) acted was not representative of the plethora of ladies of Black Greekdom who served as mentors to me and hundreds of other youth in the community where I grew-up and have lived (to include my mother, paternal Grandmother, numerous aunts and cousins).

Nor does it represent Ladies of Delta to include but not limited to women such as Dorothy Height, Dr Gwen Boyd, Ruby Dee-Davis, Cicely Tyson, Elizabeth Catlett, Varnette Honeywood, Nikki Giovanni, Judith Jamison, Shirley Caesar, Leontyne Price, Nancy Wilson, Leslie Uggams, Mara Brock Akil, Charlayne Hunter-Gault, Fannie Lou Hamer, Myrlie Beasley Evers-Williams, Betty Jean Sanders-Shabazz, Mary McLeod Bethune, Vivian Malone Jones, Mary Frances Berry, Dr Johnnetta Cole, Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Gloria Randle Scott, Eunice W. Johnson, Joycelyn Elders, Major General (ret) Marcelite J. Harris; Marian Wright Edelman, Patricia Roberts Harris, Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan (my heart), Winnie Mandela, Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, Wilma Rudolph, etc, etc.

The same when it comes to the ladies of:

AKA (of which I also have numerous family members and mentors): Vanessa Bell Calloway, Nichelle Nichols, Phylicia Rashad, Maya Angelou, Bebe Moore Campbell, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Carmen de Lavallade-Holder, Yvette Lee Bowser, Julie Dash, Ella Fitzgerald, Jessye Norman, Xernona Clayton Brady, Suzanne Malveaux, Septima Poinsette Clark, Bernice King, Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, C. Delores Tucker, Margaret Bush Wilson, Catherine L. Hughes, Enolia McMillan, Faye Wattleton, Gwendolyn Goldsby Grant, Mae Jemison, Constance Baker Motley, Leah Ward Sears, Hazel O'Leary, Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, M. Athalie Range, C. Delores Tucker, etc, etc

Zeta Phi Beta: Autherine Lucy Foster, Zora Neale Hurston, Esther Rolle, Tonea Stewart, Sarah Vaughan (my jazzy girl!), Grace Bumbry, etc, etc

    nor

Sigma Gamma Rho: Lee Chamberlin, Louise Beavers, Hattie McDaniel, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Corrine Brown, Maritza Correia, Alice Childress, Bishop Carolyn Tyler Guidry, Brenda Joysmith, etc, etc

Membership is a privilege, not a right and I would not be surprised if, after a years pass and they positively demonstrate that they have seen the error of their ways and are repentant these young ladies are allowed to successfully petition for reinstatement to the sorority.

    PS:
Before any asks, I also refuse to watch any of the other so-called “reality” show that so wretchedly portray the women of our community in such a negative light

    This one Black Man's perspective . . .

This is so absurd. They sat there and boycott a show. Where were all these people when non Greek affiliated African American men and women needed them this past year? I didn't see the divine 9 boycott all these police departments with such force this past year. Better yet I didn't see them boycott vh1 and Mona with all the bad light that they have given African Americans with shows such as love and hip hop or basketball wives ..... And the like.

These organizations started out with a clear goal and mission, but now they are a joke. All those numbers going to waste over what? One show. Did the Delta's take K Michelle letters? I mean it's only fair. K Michelle did stuff far worse than these women did.

Let's not mention that reality TV is full of people who are "greek", but you don't see those organizations pulling those people membership. They also did stuff far worse than even K Michelle.

But y'all keep up the good fight for your self interest.

While people out here threatening these women lives you worried about letters! You want to expell someone, expell the brothers and sisters who threatened these women lives. That's not very good "greek" behavior.

The way this was handled no one can take your organizations seriously. Actually it starts at home they say. If you'd start your process out right maybe members would respect the organization and others. Take a lesson from the NPC on that one in how to enforce national rules during the intake process all the way to members becoming full members.

I could never take any of it serious. I was groomed to be a legacy, but when I started seeing and hearing the hazing, how members were treated afterwards.....you can't call that a real sisterhood. AND expect people to want to join.

That's exactly why I took my happy self right on over to a NPC sorority. Still Loving every minute of it as an alumna. No drama. Just sisterhood. No matter the letters were Greek together. Really loving the NPC waters.

FYI...... Many African American men and women are going the non NPHC route nowadays.

    I wonder why?

Welp, glad me and my middle sister dodged that Delta bullet; I hope our younger sister dodge it too.

Y'all carry on with the shenanigans.

    A Shame really.

all the organizations are full of crap period. this show wasnt half as bad as most of the current black reality shows...but because some letters are on it NOW WE WANNA PROTEST AND PETITION....thats a bunch of crap. BUT we all still tune in to all the other shows.....so you mean to tell me the dignity of an organized gang is more valuable to us then the representaion of all black people in the media? thats sad and pitiful. instead of thinking your better then someone because you got you ass beat for some months and proably did some things you dont ever want to speak of again, learn TRUE self value and stop devoting all your time and money to a organization and become a better person, instead of a insecure one who needs to be apart of something to feel important.

BUT THESE ARE THE WOMEN THEY CHOOSE TO REPRESENT A SISTERHOOD...A BOND...IT JUST REMINDED ME OF TRYING TO PLEDGE AND BEING GIVEN THEIR ASS TO KISS AND CHASE WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHASING YOUNG LADIES WANTING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND NOT JUST WEAR A T-SHIRT OR REP SOME GREEK LETTERS...#THIS MENTALITY DISPLAYED IS SAD BUT TRUE WITHIN MOST UNDERGRAD CHAPTERS...I NEVER CROSSED BUT I BELIEVE IT'S BECAUSE OF THE SORORITY I CHOSE...ANY OTHER ONE WOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED MY WORTH AND ACCEPTED ME AS THEIR SISTER...TRULY HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED MY LEVEL OF RESPECT FOR SOME AND ADMIRATION OF OTHERS. BLACK SORORITIES NEED TO DO BETTER JOB AT BUILDING UP PROSPECTIVE AND INTERESTED YOUNG LADIES INSTEAD OF TEARING THEM DOWN WITH REJECTION. I DID NOT LIKE THE ATTITUDE OF AT LEAST 7-8 OF THESE CAST MEMBERS AND THEY WERE SHAMEFUL TO EACH SORORITY IN MY OPINION. I AM GLAD THEY PULLED THE SHOW.

The org are hurting themselves. They still can and will represent. Wear shirts go to party. People on there yard and around will still recognize them. Now they get to do it for free. Don't have to pay any dues. No national meeting. Alot don't go anyways. Who is this really hurting

If they had gotten rid of Priyanka, the disrespectful, hood rat, thug wanna be the show may have stood a chance.
