My hairdresser gave me the first book to read about 15years ago as I told her loved to read historical romance and right from the first chapters I was hooked just love them all and now Caitriona and Sam have made all my dreams come true just love them both, they were both Bourne to play the parts and Ron Moore has done a cracking job on the series it is absolutely superb, I am just so cross the it is not going to be showm on any of the main TV channels in the UK such a shame as it would have expanded the fan base by many thousands
I never read the books until I heard about the show. I had just finished Spartacus on STARZ and was checking out info on their web page about Black Sails when I came across the Outlander page. It looked interesting. I had about 8 months until the show started so I downloaded Outlander on my kindle. And.... Hook line and sinker for me. Introduced the books to my mom and she's hooked on the Outlander experience too!
I had never heard of the Outlander series before I came across it on Starz while channel surfing one Saturday afternoon. Watched all previous episodes that afternoon. Guess you could say I became addicted that day. After episode 8, I realized that I couldn't wait until April to see what happened. Read all 8 books in the series plus Scottish Prisoner since October. Rereading the first book again now. Can't wait for April 4 or the next book in the series...
I always look for "FAT" books. Outlander was an easy find. This was in the early 90's. Have read the series to many times to count.
My mom introduced me to the series of books, and the show last year! She was going on and on about the tv series coming out and I was like what is it?? So she explained there was a whole book series about time travel and Scotland. I was like yayyy I want to read it! So I started Outlander before the show started and I was hooked. Now I love the show too. ;)
My friend had read them years ago and posted an article about the show being made on Facebook last year. The article contained a synopsis of the story that piqued my interest so I asked my friend about it and she said she had read these books and really liked them. I then checked Barnes and Noble for Outlander and the Nook book was on sale that day so I bought it, read it, fell in love, and the rest is history.
Been reading them for 10 years, more then once, guilty pleasure. Now my kids have read them all.
Was told by a couple of work mates that this new series was starting on tv (I'm in Australia)...they couldn't believe that I hadn't read Outlander, so I had to start. Was hooked from then on and read all books over the next couple of months. There are five of us now who have to discuss each and every scene and we've even added some guys to the 'review' group! One of us is a Scot from Glasgow, so we get lessons on pronunciation :-) Am now into second reading (just at the Battle of Prestonpans) and bracing myself for Culloden and the end of this part. (Hate the fact that they have to spend the next 20 years apart.) What also worries me, is how will we cope when Diana eventually finishes the story...how will life be, knowing that there will be no more Jamie and Claire? Too scary to contemplate :-(
I saw outlander being filmed at my city's castle in Carlisle and it got me interested. ive read all the books to date, im totally hooked. i managed to see the all the tv episodes so far even though it hasn't been released in the UK yet. XD My grandad used to tell me i was a sassenach and i have personal links and history involved in the times these stories are set. love them x
I overheard a co-worker discussing them and mentioned that it sounded like my kind of book. She gave me her copy of Outlander to read, which I did and fell in love. Soon after that I was hurt on the job and staying home on Worker's Comp. and since she had all the books up till then--through Echo in the Bone, so I was able to read them all in a row. It certainly helped the recovery. Thank goodness for the show, which I adore, because I am chomping at the bit for the next one! I think Diana must have lived this or part at some past time.
I was browsing a kindle sale and found Outlander for a couple of bucks. I didn't know anything about it except it was long, and i love a long book. So i bought it. It sat there for a couple of years in the 'someday' pile. I started a new job with a much longer commute. I decided to try out Audiobooks and was doing some research on the 'best ones'. TONS of people suggested outlander, and I remembered I already had the kindle version. Thus began my obsession. I have listened to all the audiobooks, in order (but had to wait for MOBY to come out). Davina Porter is amazing as a narrator and they are fantastic b/c each one is like 40 hours, which is great for commuters!
Around 1990-92 I was walking through a bookstore just as an employee was opening crates of books. " Here ,he said , "hot off the press", and handed me a copy. I sat down and stared at the cover. As a Needleworker I am always looking for quilt and cross-Stitch patterns. The cover of Outlander 1st edition was just beautiful ; the pearls. the broken mirror, the antique clock, the roses and so much more. I went right home and read for 2 days this beautifully written story. I have all 8 books in perfect 1st editions , I also have the 20th year anniversary edition , audio, Kindle , But what I don't have, after almost 25 yrs. is the patterns that would do justice to the beautiful Outlander cover. I am now 73 and hope to be able to read the last book and complete my dream Quilt Patricia Smith
I love time travel genre so years ago I googled time travel fiction and Outlander found me. It was destiny.
My mother-in-law gave me Outlander in1993 because she did not care for stories about time travel. I've been hooked ever since. I got my sister and niece hooked as well and now we are all enthralled with the Stars movies. Hope they do all nine books.
Being Scotch/Irish I saw the book on a table in local bookstore in I think 1992. The words jump off the page and bring you to another place. I have been reading Dianna's books since. Have read each multiple times. Voyager is my favorite.
I came across Outlander when it first came out in the early 90s and the story and the characters have been with me ever since. Diana Gabaldon has given us a timeless gift.
When I retired from teaching and finally had time to read again I asked my sister to recommend her favorite book. Of course it was Outlander. That was 3 years ago and I have read all the books many times since then. As for the series, they are doing a wonderful job turning Diana's work into a beautiful and heart felt visual of the books. I have rewatched an episode each and every day to get my Outlander fix!! My thanks to Diana and the film cast and crew!!
16 years ago (I was 15), my mama finally convinced me to give the book a shot- I'd been refusing because the 40's were not an era I was interested in. Once I finally picked up Outlander, I never put the series down. Mama & I read them together & discuss these days.
I have re read the whole series 5 times! The tv series is fantastic! Does not disappoint from the book in the least! ALL characters portraying are amazing! Scenery and costumes gorgeous.
I read Outlander in three days, had to give it back to my daughter, came home to the UK from Tucson, bought Outlander from Amazon then worked my way through the rest of the series as they became available. How many times have read I and re read them? Far too many to count! Now I'm on Book 3 yet again.
