Perhaps a very large donation from the very wealthy (and recent $10 million dollar man) veteran news reader to assist veterans that actually have seen combat and need help. Maybe a good portion on a yearly basis
would be good community service and show sincerity to the service men he feels so strongly about.

Prosecuting attorney’s lie & develop own tales to tell a jury, joined by law enforcement to “solve “ a crime. Innocent people go to jail or execution. That is our justice system & their ethics are unbelevable> Our system as the greatest country on earth is buiit on such a system! & we do not know itl So sad. I guess we have lies all around!

Need absolutely to trust a reporter to listen to his reporter. Why else would you watch news? One error is one too many? Give new reporter a chance & his post! He is the one that put himself in this position, he forgot where he came from. Trust in a reporter is crucial not just a pretty face. Clean chicken pens for a living if he does not have enough to live uncomfortably & he does, I am certain. I’d be pleased to have his wealth &what I have is from being a social worker. working with society’s misfits..1953-1980 Forgiveness? -Grow up.

well that's kind of a tough one. On one hand, there is a lot of disingenuous presentation in media from market 301 to marker one. Lies and exaggerations are told that all levels of business, government, and home. From weapons of mass destruction--to--I didn't have sex with that woman – – it's inescapable. I think he'd almost be better served by saying,"I did lie I'm prepared to take my punishment. If I should step down so be it. I'll do as I'm asked at this point. I made a mistake and I'll face my consequences whatever they may be." I'm hard-pressed to think there wasn't some sort of NBC executive management machine behind some of that dishonesty – – after all--companies (and media) are profit driven. Their number one goal isn't accuracy it's profit. If I were in his shoes my! Audibly wouldn't be some sort of "Miss remember" been it probably be something along the lines of, quotation mark I'm having a hard time saying that I lied… But I can easily admit to being dishonest, misleading, and unprofessional." In my further better his case by just simply saying I'm going to do whatever it takes to make this right you've even if it means saying goodbye to the career that I cherish more than any other. Ultimately at the end of the day, I made the mistake, I own it, I want to move on with it as best I can.

Brian is like so many other poeple of note and has become a legend in his own mind. If you think that was something, wait till you see this.

NBC News can ill-afford both this mess and the loss of Williams. Who would take his place ... that incredible social-climbing (and network-climbing) non-journalist Chuck Todd? The super nice guy Lester Holt?

No, the answer is for NBC News, and Brian Williams, to grow up, take full responsibility, institute regular reports on issues of inaccuracy, be transparent, and assert that getting things right is their JOB. And then get Brian some counseling for runaway-ego-syndrome.

I don't see that he lied. Misremembered seems closer to my opinion. I've seen a lot of people do that in my life. A journalist is also a story teller and I could always tell that Mr. Williams reveled in his story telling ability. I do not understand why there seems to be more flack about this than Hilary Rodham-Clinton's recollection of dodging bullets on a tarmac. She was running for president at the time. As far as I can tell, Mr. Williams is not running for election, although I'm sure he could use votes of confidence.

    Brian Williams
I stand in modest defense of Brian Williams.
I am not eager to hop on the bloodsport bandwagon’s career destroying “gotcha-ness” of the Vox Populi. A feeding frenzy has surrounded Brian Williams and the damage is likely irreparable. In Brian’s case his “misremembering” and exaggerations have been self-destructive, so the scorn and ridicule are well earned, so it seems.
Brian, projecting a likable guy-next-door casualness, now tenuously holds on to a very shaky seat as the longest serving of the three network news anchors, where he is also the Managing Editor of the Nightly News on NBC. He is on a “self imposed” short break from the Nightly News, to which he likely will never return.
Nonetheless, through momentous occasions, Brian Williams has been a steadying and comforting presence. I don’t know whether he merits, or will be thrown a lifeline, a second chance, a get out of jail free card. But I think we will be missing him long after the tarring and feathering ceases.
We are no longer a society that forgivingly appreciates the better qualities of a lifetime of work and competency. Brian Williams screwed up. We caught him. Now all that is left to do is decide whether he will be thrown overboard to the sharks, or tossed off the mountain from an unsurvivable height. We, the Circus Maximus, are pointing thumbs down.
There is joy in Mudville tonight. Another man done gone. Perhaps we would be better, and better served, by having a humbled Brian Williams sitting at the anchor desk, rather than starting again with the next one up. Whether it is Savannah Guthrie or Lester Holt, or Jerry Springer, we might look ourselves in the mirror and study the reflection.
