What should the Falcons do with Julio Jones?

Reading these comments makes me sad, because it proves people are right about Atlanta fans. You guys don't even understand the basic premise about the salary cap forcing real choices and receivers having almost zero to do with championships.

You guys are attached to Julio but good teams never overpay for receivers. Bad teams do it. You know why? Because fans of bad teams are fine as long as they see highlights on ESPN. But if you look at all the top receivers, the ones who go high in the draft and get big money, the ones on good teams are very few and very far between. Bradley doesn't even go into the numbers - Falcons just paid a QB big money, none of those big money QBs except Stafford also have a big money receiver. This is just Falcons fans being desperate. Julio can be replaced, because you don't need superstars at that position. Especially superstars with chronic injuries. That foot is not going to go away.

    Dumb story

This article is absolutely ridiculous and should not have been written , a better question is whether Mark Bradley sane or not ?

Is this a serious article? Trade Julio or let him go? To me there's only one option and that's to do everything possible to keep him around for years to come. If they aren't able to get him a deal then somebody should be fired, put simply. They have to have him. Rise Up!

If Julio leaves Matt Ryan would be exposed. He's a good quarterback but much of his success can be attributed to a great receiving corps. Lock Julio in!

Get rid of Julio???? You must be a saints fan. Roddy White, Devin Hester, Stephen Jackson, Sam Baker and Mike Johnson to name a few on offense are the bums that need to go.

This article is just DUMB!!! There are so many overpaid, lousy, often injured players on
This team to cut in order to clear salary cap...so you're suggesting to cut loose our best player in his prime? DUMB

Seatle also has #1 defense and beast mode ( when they actually use him) our d stinks and every game we win us a shoot out. So get get rid of our best weapon we spent 80 draft picks to get in his prime ?? .. No.. No thank you

Greatness at the WR position is the norm at the Pro level. This article is lunacy.

The problem with the falcons has been injuries. They need to fire the entire strength and conditioning staff. The Patriots have not won simply because of their D and strength at the line. They - more than any team in the NFL - have won on scheme and coaching. There isn't a ton of those coaches out there. It is also very convenient to take one postseason and judge one position. Most people would agree that Packers looked like the better team for an entire game until the D let them down. I love how they somehow pin the lack of winning on Jordy Nelson. I know that isn't exactly what was said - but that is what was implied.

Look at the Patriots model. They win with strong D, great line play on both sides, and a running game. The falcons need to improve in all of these areas. If that means trading Julio, I'm all for it!! His talent is clear, but does it fit this team, NO.

We would be a fool to let julio go an he is our best receiver. Sign julio bck for a long term contract

  • Jimmy Iovine - 9 years ago

Anyone who would suggest we trade or let Julio jones go is just plain dumb and don't know anything about football Julio is the man who can get us a ring along with some nice defensive players

Take a look at Shannahans offenses . Ryan and Julio will be the center pieces . No way Douglas is worth 3.5 million this season . I was more impressed with Bernard Reedy last offseason . Roddy White is on the decline "OBVIOUSLY" his numbers are somewhere around 9million a season . Without the overpaid veterans you can surround your center pieces with plenty of talent and speed . Everyone talks about letting Julio go , but no one says let White go???? Have we all been watching the same Falcons the last 2 years??? White stays injured and numbers have been declining since he signed his contract extension . HELLO!!!!! The signs are there . Sam Baker should be a casualty as well . Overpaid , Injury Prone , mediocre at best when hes somewhat healthy . Julio is where we should look to build .

If you want to trade or get rid of offensive players , let overpaid Roddy White and Harry Douglas go . You dont let your young stud reciever go . Give him his money . What a stupid suggestion to let him go . After he left and Matt Ryans numbers went south , you would only have another bonehead roster move to pin on Dimitroff . Julio is elite , Bring in some young receivers to pair with him . Old vets are what is sagging our team .

If they trade for draft picks, there is no guarantee, even with Quinn, that we would suddenly get better at picking talent. Besides I can't handle a second totally blown up team with the Braves obviously the first.

  • Donny Lumpkin - 9 years ago

He will undoubtedly put such a strain on the salary cap that the areas where we suffer cannot be sufficiently filled. Trade him before he's hurt again and his stock goes down.

  • Johnny The Roofer - 9 years ago

We need a good drill sergeant head coach and I think Dan Quinn is that type of coach. A coach who drives home to each player the desire to be the best he can be and who drives into them the importance of winning the game and the importance of being a team and not just for himself.

You don't get BETTER by getting rid of a Julio Jones. The reason this team has struggled is because of bad draft picks and bad coaching that took place AFTER drafting Julio. I understand your points about this year's playoff's teams but that was this year. If we start gearing our teams based on the previous season we fall into the same trap that Dimitroff fell in. Look at your own team, find the holes and address them accordingly. This isn't Rocket science.

Everyone thinks the julio trade was such a bad one, but I ask how many of the players that browns drafted off all those picks are still in the league. 1 that's it.....

  • Melvin Taylor - 9 years ago

The Atlanta Falcons has solved there problem, coaches. Smitty and Dimitroff draft players who were either no good or if they formed a dislike for them and did not play them.
