Charitably Chas called a 'tusk' but more resembling a rusty needle, given the longstanding importance of the kirkgate to trade, and its once key use as a corridor taking you to the river - could we at least have something that at reflects an element of local culture and history?
How about a Leith quality framework to stop developers ploping rubbish (and rubbish art) in our public realm?

It turned, predictably, into a public pissoir as soon as it was installed, so they had to put the ugly railings on it to stop people going inside. It has always been an eyesore and is now scruffy, vandalised and falling apart at the tip. It was a disgraceful waste of money moving the Queen Victoria statue and plinth a few meters to make way for this badly made, badly designed and entirely unloved bit of 'public art'. Get rid of it. Sooner the better.

Take it down, it is indeed ugly and if it is there to commemorate whaling it is a monument to barbarity. Creative 'greening' needed.
It should go; it's ugly . Put some greenery in instead , plants and tress would be welcome .
