Dont just target the 20 oil fields controlled by ISIS. You need to hold the 'buyers' accountable. That would entail applying pressure to those nations, one of whom is our NATO ally Turkey. The threat of removal from NATO may be enough but realize, the president of Turkey, Erdogan, is no friend of Israel. That nation is 98% muslim and we as in the US, have nukes stored in Incirlik base in Turkey. The moment Turkey feels threatened they could very well overrun our base and simply TAKE our nukes. They need to be removed now.
Read and familiarize yourself with the Quran and you will have a much better understanding of the mindset of muslims. With that said you will begin to understand that much more than .025% of the population is extremist. In fact, if you listened to Turkey's president you would have heard him say that there is no such thing as a 'moderate' muslim and this has been repeated lately from other muslim leaders. The reason , once again, is in the Quran and it states explicitly the duty of a muslim is to eliminate any and all threats to Islam.
Any action we make militarily inside Syria/Iraq risking American lives will result in some other muslim faction gaining power in that region. Right now Iran is closely allied with the Houthi rebels that caused the downfall of the Yemeni government. They are shiites. This is the same nation that Obama proudly proclaimed as a badge of success of his foreign policy (or lack thereof). Iran has influence in Iraq as well and they do have 'boots on the ground'--i dislike that overused term. Iran uses a multitude of trained and armed 'insurgents' , aka proxies, in the entire middle east and africa theater of operations. Whatever we do to stop one group of extremists simply allows another to rise to power and it becomes a never-ending scenario of carnage , death and destruction. We also cannot afford the $ Trillions. Our economy cannot bare it. Our deficit is sky high. Obama has increased this debt more than any other president COMBINED. The ultimate number one focus should be to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to get our economy under control, bring our manufacturing back to our shores and give the skilled labor middle income jobs back to all those millions who lost them.
Lets not forget the other hotspots around the world. Overlooking for the moment the saber rattling of Russia and their intrusion in Crimea/Ukraine, look at Africa. Boko Haram killing and kidnapping and raping multitudes in areas around Nigeria. Goodluck Jonathan just lost his presidency due to his own inadequacies there. Cameroon, Niger, and Chad combined have smaller population and smaller GDP than the oil producing Nigeria but are almost completely responsible for fighting that islamic jihad group there. Now we have in Kenya yet another atrocity committed by the islamic terrorists called Al Shabab. What if all these militant muslims combine forces? Our best bet is to insert troops for training into those nations that are our real friends. Kenya is a democracy and deserves our help as do those fighting Boko Haram. Those groups are less well funded and armed and this would not be nearly as costly. Above all, we need to secure the passage of oil through the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. Not Obama's way by having ships sent piecemeal into the region so they can be picked off by 100 speedboats either. The moment one of enormously expensive Aircraft Carriers is left alone in one of those bathtubs we can kiss it goodbye along with the thousands of our sailors and a hundred very expensive warplanes.
The whole problem here in my opinion is the lack of leadership of President Obama. He has alienated our allies and demonstrated weakness to our enemies by his lack of response and his supplication and appeasement to our enemies. This has caused a Power Vacuum that has destabilized great swaths of the globe. China's territory grabbing in East and South China Sea is a good example. Russia's actions are a good example.
