The answer is simple.
At 65, or whatever the retirement age is at the time, you should lose your vote.
OR, a cross party agreement to cut pensioners benefits to modest, affordable levels.
Either idea would stop prospective governments pandering to the old. Many of whom, especially the low paid, have paid very little into the system compared to what they draw out.
How many times have I heard that someone has worked hard all their life so they deserve their pension and perks? Yes, well they may well have worked hard but many have paid precious little in NI contributions towards a pension or the NHS.
Also, plenty of women pensioners today, got their pension via their husbands NI contributions. So in fact the husbands single NI contribution has paid out 1.7 pensions. Rediculous!
