We need to decide as citizen to take back Our educational system by starting our Schools after Labor Day. We also need to stop all religious teachings of Radical Islamic Beliefs within Our Schools. The Muslims in the United States does not control the United States Citizens. The United States CITIZENS have seen the damage Radical Muslims have done to the United States, Germany, and Italy. Our Government thinks we live under a Dictator Government. We the People makes the Decisions in Our Government. The Politicians have forgotten that our Government is run by the Citizens of the United States. Our Government has let DEMOCRATIC Dictator Obama and Democratic Dictator Omalley run Our Government too long. We need to take back the Decisions in our country to allow the United States CITIZENS to ONLY VOTE. We must prevent all illegal voting or aliens from voting at all costs. The Democrats are allowing ILLEGAL RADICAL MUSLIMS and/ Radical Muslim Citizens to take over the United States.

Well...I am sure that I will be amongst the VERY unpopular vote when I say that not only should schools not start after labor day they should actually start earlier. In Garrett County there are a typical number of Winter days that the children will have off due to the weather. Starting earlier allows for an earlier end to the school year. Starting the 2nd week of August is not too much of a stretch. Since counties have the delegation to determine the way the 180 days are in session, why not start the 2nd week of August and end the 2nd week of May, after all, the deliberation is over how long the summer should be. As well, if one is going to start after Labor day, what is the difference of ending before Memorial Day? Just a thought...

The weather is no excuse- any of us "of a certain age" never attended an air-conditioned school. Even today I do not have an air conditioned house and not all students do. Funny how they can play outside in summer but not go to school??? Aren't most schools air-conditioned anyhow nowadays? Kids are going to miss a certain number of days most years due to winter weather and they need to factor that in to insure all kids attend school the required number of days. It does not matter if the end of school is May 15th or June 15th, kids will be antsy for it either way and a skilled teacher and dedicated parents will keep them focused. School is vitally necessary an it is pathetic how far behind American children are falling compared to other countries. There is nothing wrong with kids going to school in June, they will not die. If we happen to have an easy winter and do not need to make up any snow days, then they can get out of school earlier. Cutting back on the number of holidays could be another way to handle the problem.

As a retired Baltimore County teacher of thirty years I do not think it is a good idea. First I taught in a non air conditioned school, with the schedule starting after Labor Day and before Labor Day. Starting before Labor Day even if the weather was typical Baltimore HHH, is was easier to keep the students engaged in learning because they had their summer break and were ready to return to learning. Once you have pasted the beginning of June, seniors graduating, no matter how hard you tried. when the weather turned Baltimore, HHH, it was difficult to keep the students engaged in meaningful learning. I can only speak to schools lacking air condition. I wonder if anyone of our representatives have ever left their air conditioned offices, in their air condition cars to visit a classrooms of second or third graders in June.

Schools should start after Labor Day and finish before Memorial Day. There are too many days off in between! That's the way it was when I was a kid....I'm in my 50's.

June is one of the best days to be outside and enjoying the moderate temperatures of a ballpark or hiking trail. By pushing back the start of school, too much of the best days will be sacrificed, since the year will be extended into June. Also, students check out by the end of May, though they show interest and excitement in the beginning of a new year. We should take advantage of the time window that students are excited to be in school for rather than forcing them to stay later in the year.
