Should military pensions be tax-free in Maine?

Rocky, I understand your point but the enforcing the intent of that point would be impossible fairly. What about those in submarine service, they haven't seen combat since WWII but they probably do more for the direct defense of our nation than any other servicemember. What about ground crews for long range bombers, they usually make extremely important strategic strikes in support of combat operations but the palnes base way outside the combat zone. What about people who deploy to Kuwait which is technically a combat zone or was until recently but their daily activities and safety level are the same as stateside. Basically the military is a team and all jobs work together for the good of the mission as a whole. So if it is tax free for some it should be for all. I say this as a retired serviceman who has been deployed to combat. I understand both sides of the issue and am good with either way the state wants to go. Bottom line tax free states encourage pensioners of all types and pensioners spend money.

Absolutely and while we're at it let's not forget to add those who serve in our police and fire departments. Those that put their life on the line everyday and survive to retirement should not be taxed.

Oh yes by all means tax the pension, very glad they served. But most of the time here is a group of people that are collecting pension money, at still a early age 45-55. And still go to work at a full time job usually making a lot more than they did with the military.

I'm ok with it as long as the vet served in a combat zone. If they sat behind a desk for twenty years in a US base,,,,then no.
