Criminals love gun-free zones. It makes their prey easy targets.

I wouldn't spend my money on tuition in a state that only allows criminals to carry guns on university campus. And that is exactly what an anti-gun law does. Disrms law abiding people, not criminals.
Oh and on a side note, I don't carry my Glock 26 to defend against criminals carrying guns, I carry it to defend against criminals carrying knives, bats, axes, ice picks, machetes, hammers, box cutters, etc etc.

The question is posed as: "Should college students be allowed to carry guns on campus?"
But the correctly and less misleading question should be: "Should college students over the age of 21 who hold valid Georgia Weapons Carry Licenses be allowed to carry guns on campus?"
The anti-gun faction doesn't want to point out that people who hold have carry permits have been fingerprinted and background checked by the state. By law they must be over 21. They want to make it sound like pro gun / pro self defense folks want firearms issued to every student on campus.
Many of the students who would be carrying are second career adults well over the age of 21.
The irrational fear of an inanimate object being carried by somebody continues to boggle my mind...

Why are things different on the college side of the street from across the street? I think many people imagine the crazy, drunk 18 year old with a gun. Guess what? They're not eligible to get a carry permit at all. In most states, the age is 21. Do you trust the 21 year old or not? You can't have it both ways.

i am a second career student and carry wherever I go. I recently was leaving the library on campus and felt a little nervous because of the surroundings but that was gone as soon as I had my hand on my 38. I didn't have to use it but it made me feel better knowing I had protection.

Colorado has allowed CCW on college campuses for several years now. The result?
Colorado is 15th lowest in the nation for total murder rate (per 100,000), 14th lowest for gun murders. And considering over 50% of households in Colorado have 1 or more firearms in it, I'd say that's decent.
Georgia, meanwhile, has double the homicide and nearly triple the gun homicide rates of Colorado, with a similar rate of gun ownership.
There's far more to it than just the rate of ownership or the carrying of firearms, but nothing has happened in Colorado to justify the fear of allowing someone over 21 to carry a firearm for self defense on a college campus.

If it's a right - why do we need permission? How can it be prohibited in the first place? Previous generations didn't have firearms banned at schools. How did we allow it to be taken from us in the first place?

Several states already allow licensed adults to carry on campus, and I don't believe it has been an issue at all. If it has not been a problem everywhere else it is legal, then why would anyone think it is an issue here? We are not talking about 18 year old freshman here - we are talking about licensed adults. Let them carry!

being able to protect yourself and others is far from harmful. people that are going to misuse weapons are going to do so whether they have a license to carry or not. at least let the others have a chance to protect themselves.
