How will you vote in the Transit Plebiscite?

Actually Joanne is right about the fund not being directly controlled by TransLink. It will be dispensed according to municipal needs. That is correct. I think we should vote YES. I'm a rare no to yes convert and not because I entirely trust the mayors or TransLink.

I think "no" vote will only mean we will pay for these improvements anyway, but in a different manner. I can afford a small amount of money better than a large amount. Makes sense, right? If this plebescite fails, a smaller group of people (property owners) will pay for transit than a larger group (general public, tourists).

Saying no opens the doors to more distasteful methods of payment which include:

    Property tax hikes
    Vehicle levy
    Road pricing
    Increased bridge tolls

What about the real cost to your family by saying no?

    Increased congestion
Increased pollution due to burning fuel
    Increased fuel costs

    What about the social cost?
    Increased chauffeuring of non-drivers
    Communities feeling farther apart

And what about our kids? Shouldn't we leave them a better future? Not be car dependent in this urban sprawl. A better way is possible.

This is about transparency and accountability if this was included in the changes needed prior to the vote with long term promises and consequences for those that abuse public money they would win a YES vote over night, we wouldn't need to vote. BUT all this fear factor half truths and BS doesn't include the two things the public want most…… Transparency and accountability. Its that simple why a NO vote will win.

I don't agree with Joanne. What you see are just what they are advertising they would do. But there's no guarantee! To the contrary, what they have done in the past and are doing now simply prove the other way than their advertising. Keep your basic value as Canadian. If someone is proven to be ineffective and inefficient, don't give YOUR money to him / her to manage YOUR investment! If a government (or a party, an organization) is proven to be ineffective and inefficient, don't give YOUR vote to them! It's our basic value as Canadians.

Joanne, you're not fooling anyone here. Translink is advertising all the things they're going to spend the extra money on. Either you're ignorant or a liar. Either way...

The money is not going to Tanslink, it is going to a seperate fund to be dispersed accordingly to municipalities. Jim Pattison will be heading this committee. Everyone of us should be voting YES.
I thought the money was going to Translink and I was appalled at that thought; how they have been running our transit system into the ground. Great article from Gregor Robertson, check it out.
