Given the number of options available, what would OTHER consist of? Cousins? Co-workers? Nakama?

I chose enemies/nemesis for shits and giggles.

I'm kinda baffled people are surprised by F/F ships being super prevalent in this fandom. The vast majority of characters (even background/minor) are female. That's what happens. People ship because they like relationships, so they're going to ship what's possible/reasonable/interesting/enjoyable/attractive/whatever.
Anyhow, Vinyl/Octavia is my OTP.
It all comes down to headcanon, of course, but I feel the "they are too different" arguments are a bit overstated and tend to see them more as two sides of the same coin. But really, we're talking about characters that are made entirely out of fanon, so their general functionality as a couple comes down entirely to the version you read about/envision/whatever.
@don
I have noticed a strong correlation between immaturity and the inability to spell. I am convinced that this has nothing to do with chronological age.
“Tortoise” would the word you are looking for, I think, and butthurt is one word, not two. It is also a petty insult used by people who 1. consider showing emotion to be a weakness (blame the conception of masculinity) and 2. are generally not fully aware of the situation they are trying to make fun of, and so misapply the term anyway.

@Kicks_McGee
It's called “don't vote”. Honestly, why do people think these things should apply to them 100% of the time? If we did that for everyone, about all Seth could ask is age, gender, and place of residence. And even those would have detractors. In short, if you don't like it, just move on. You don't need to pour negativity on what is supposed to be light entertainment.
@Aster J.
I really hope you grow up and stop enjoying other people's discomfort. But we can't always have what we want.
@Chuck Norway
Did you know that the most popular romantic pairing in the Star Trek fandom is Kirk/Spock? (There's also Kirk/Enterprise, because why not ship him with a ship?) Fan fiction doesn't conform to your homophobic bias. Get over it.

I really hope they are sisters. Just for all of the lesboshippers' butthurt.

What a dull poll. What's next? Relationship between the mayor and the cousin of AJ?
If you need ideas for poll, I'm sure we can give some.

Jeez, not ALL pones need to be in lez relationships. Lyra + Bonbon is fucking adorable and I'm totally behind that ship. Some of the mane6 ones are fine too, though they usually feel more jailhouse-gay than twue wuv. But Tavi and Vinyl? Nah, I don't see it. I could see Vinyl as being bi perhaps, maybe even mostly lez, but even so it doesn't seem likely to work out with those two. But I could see them as roommates, especially with their stark differences providing counterpoint to their love of (very different) music.
Of course there's nothing from the show to back this, it's just an extension of their fanon personalities. But yeah, Odd Couple housemates works well with these two.
Jags - 9 years ago
I can't recall even seeing them interact. Maybe with the 100th episode they'll talk (and to each other), but there's nothing to say, really. I prefer my ponies canon, and keeping extraneous "romance" from interfering with a great story.
Cloud Wander - 9 years ago
Masonpony is most correct. I see them as being in a "tsundere" relationship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsundere), with Octavia as the "strong one" most of the time. This works if they are just friends, roommates or going steady. The thing is, their differences are what make their relationship exciting. Sure, they tick each other off all the time, but they are never bored.
Kapuchu - 9 years ago
From a canon standpoint, I'll have to say that I think of them as friends the most. From a fanon standpoint? *chuckles* A couple, obviously :P
Someone - 9 years ago
I can't even see them friends. It's like a Call of Duty fan and a Zelda fan falling in love with each other and not liking anything each other liked. Has always seemed forced. I don't even think they are cute together either.
Personally, I see Octavia knowing Frederic Horseshoepin better (the piano pony in The Best Night Ever) because they both play stringed instruments. Why doesn't anyone like the piano? I think its a fantastic instrument.
Hat - 9 years ago
I have never seen anything more than two separate ponies who may not know each other. The idea of them knowing each other well just because they are both interested in music, or even that they would be foils to each other, is not really compelling enough for me to adopt. Nothing against it being used.
It is a little disappointing to see someone downvote a story if one of the characters is included without mention of the other.
Ryoga_hibiki - 9 years ago
You forgot "in a platonic relationship".
Musichead2468 - 9 years ago
Those two are my best ponies. Vinyl Scratch cause I love music, and Octavia cause her colors are the colors that represent asexuality.
Randompony - 9 years ago
We've never seen them interact in the canon of the show for the first four seasons, so it's possible that they don't even know each other at all. Octavia probably lives in Canterlot and Vinyl we've seen in Ponyville (though she was in Canterlot for Cadance and Shining Armor's wedding). I dont follow the shipping of them as roomies or romantically involved. I'd like to think they could be long distance friends who visit each other from time to time, or simply have never come into contact with one another. Those are the only two possibilities I see.
Almeron - 9 years ago
I have nothing against shipping or same-sex relationships, I adore Lyra and Bon Bon and I'm a staunch Appledash fan. But I've never really gotten behind the Octavia / Vinyl as a couple idea. They just don't strike me as being able to get along for long periods of time without bugging the crap out of eachother.
@Chuck Norway
Given how shipping crazy this fandom tends to be, I'm a little bit surprised that the number of people who've voted for some form of extra-platonic involvement is *only* at ~39% (at the time of this posting, anyway).
Although, the 4% turnout for the "sisters" option is what surprises me the most. I don't think I've ever encountered that idea before this poll. Is there some semi-popular fanfic I'm missing out on somewhere?
Masonpony - 9 years ago
I think a "frenimies" option should've been added. I can see them as sort of ambivalent about each other, maybe even a bit friendly, but just being too different about their passions to ever really get along. Especially when the subject of music arises...
Chuck Norway - 9 years ago
This is a fanbase that ships every fucking lesbian pair it can fucking think of. What did you expect?
ShadowRose - 9 years ago
I cannot see them as anything other than friends or roommates. Romantic relationship? Bleh, not my cup of tea.
