Well, after a week or so of experimenting with OsmAnd off and on, I haven't yet succeeded in persuading it to draw a map on the screen. It has said it's downloading maps, but if so, it doesn't want to use them. It shows a circle-with-a-fan-tail icon in the middle of a white screen that I suspect is its "you are here" symbol, and when I tell it to find a round, it says there's no road within 3.5 miles, although there's one right outside my window.
Attempts to find documentation haven't been too fruitful. Lots of pages telling me what OsmAnd can do; nothing telling me how to make it do them.

There used to be a small lock on the top line, that locked the touch screen. Very handy for using the device on a motor-bike. You do not want to "un-glove" everytime the touch screen gets touched by mistake, Where has it gone?
