When I first saw Tom Hardy in Nicholas Winding-Rfn's *Bronson,* I thought to myself. "Now, here's a guy who should be in a post-apocalyptic wasteland."

    Toldja.

You had me at Tom Hardy. You will always have me at Tom Hardy.

  • Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was a regular part of the film rotation in my house while I was growing up. I have fond memories of watching it. But I also remember realizing, slowly, that "You know what, this isn't a very good movie. Like at all. Actually, this is terrible." It kind of tainted Mad Max for me. I've never gone back to the originals, so Mad Max, George Miller, and Tom Hardy added up to something that could possibly be interesting, but it wasn't getting me out of the house (I voted for Jessica Chastain over Tom Hardy, so . . . ).

    Then I saw the trailer.

The trailer bursts with visual energy. Every frame is packed with activity and pageantry. The stakes are immediately enormous, life and death at hair trigger speeds. And that's before the gigantic sand storm subsumes the battling convoys. When the trailer was over, I discovered that I had already mentally budgeted a few dollars more to see this on the biggest screen possible and I was totally ok with it.

I saw the originals before I was old enough to understand what was going on, and wasn't sure, even after the sublimely manic trailer, that I was interested in checking this one out. However with the amount of buzz around it I will probably catch a matinee at some point.

I wouldn't say they have me, but they have my curiosity. I'm ready to watch the originals as a result of everyone's enthusiasm, at least.

Oh, uh, also. "You never had your car!"

I was at South by Southwest, where George Miller screened a restored print of The Road Warrior. It was... AMAZING! The whole crowd was into it. We also got to see some new clips from Fury Road. It looks as good as The Road Warrior.

I've never seen any of the Mad Max movies, but the trailer that played before the new Avengers movie looked visually spectacular, so they had me there.

I heavily debated between Tom Hardy and you never had me, yet in the end went with Hardy. For while the trailer made me think it would be nothing but an brainless post apocalyptic action film with little to no plot, Hardy has become one of those actors that I will see anything he is in. Also it is hard for me to believe that he would have chosen to be in this unless he knew it would be good film considering his amazing track record over the past five years with Locke, The Drop, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception and, Warrior, which may not all be great films, but he is great in them.

I have no problem ignoring Mad Max and Thunderdome....can I say you had me at Road Warrior?

Where is "You had me a Charlize Theron's crew cut?"

  • Jonathan Anderson-Minot, ND - 9 years ago

The Road Warrior is one of the best action films ever. Period. I can't call myself a Mad Max fan though, the first film is only okay and Thunderdome is an atrocity. So that's out.

Out of George Miller's filmography, I've only seen the Mad Max films. So that one's already been answered.

I like Charlize Theron, I still don't understand why her performance in Young Adult isn't more widely discussed and praised, but she's not enough to sell me on a movie.

Tom Hardy is, but there's an extraordinary circumstance in this that led to him not being the answer.

Seriously, extraordinary. Have you seen those trailers? I rolled my eyes at the notion that Warner Bros. was selling tickets to see the Batman vs. Superman trailers in IMAX, but if they were putting Fury Road's trailers on a big screen on a loop in my area I can't lie, I'd probably be one of those people. Can you submit a trailer for Best Short Film at the Oscars? Okay, now I'm crossing into hyperbole, better to quit while I'm ahead.

Not excited about this. You almost got me to care by bringing up Thomas Hardy. I saw Locke. But I also saw Star Trek: Nemesis. I'm afraid his character will be less Ivan, more Shinzon.

Deep down in all of our hearts there's a longing. A need for restoration. If we all searched inside ourselves we'd realize how great our need for Tom Hardy is. We saw him sit in a car and talk for an entire movie and he sold us on it completely. Now we'll see him sit in a car and not talk for an entire movie and it'll be a brooding performance for the ages. I'm greatly looking forward to Hardy's next roles in Legend and The Revenant, and hoping by 2016 they'll just start making films where he walks angrily for two hours.

As much as I wanted to like the trailer, I didn't. But they had me at George Miller

  • Thomas Dargent - Lisbon, Portugal - 9 years ago

Yeah...no. I have only recently watched the original Mad Max and didn't quite care for it. I can't say I'm very excited about the reboot, though it's always nice to see Tom Hardy do something new. Surely there must be some other new and intriguing dystopia ideas we could be funding instead ?

Having never seen the original and from what several fan boys have told me: the original Mad Max is some undeniable masterpiece. What the trailer presupposes - maybe it isn't?
