If owning/using a gun illegally is so wrong, why are there not more mandatory minimum sentences for illegal possession/possession of stolen weapon, use of such a weapon in a crime, etc. being handed down? They should not be able to make a deal to reduce/eliminate these minimums.

Now, ajc. make SURE you run these poll results in future issues and stories just as much as you ran your skewed church/college/school carry poll last year during the HB60 debate. Equal time, ok?

I will say though, that your writing skills are nice-that's definitely some FeinBlathering there.

    Problems:
1-You used statistics from Everytown. Even CNN no longer believes the nonsense they call fact.
2-You launch into a discussion of "how you did it in New York." No one cares.
3-You completely ignore the fact that the primary reason that in city after city, it's being shown that LOOSENING of gun laws is reducing crime. Why no mention of people now defending themselves in Chicago?

Please understand that I am appalled at the number of young men that I see killing each other, night after night, in every major city we've got. But instead of focusing on the root of the problem, you believe that enacting a law that takes away guns from honest people will somehow solve the issue. It won't .

The author has the right to be condescending and bloviate about Georgia, but he has absolutely no idea about what he is talking about. The article made several unsubstantiated claims and the author wants law abiding citizens to be required to undergo a background checks to buy or sell private property.

He has no first hand knowledge of illegal transfers from FFLs to criminals, but wants to make up a lie that if told enough will magically come true due to his charm and magnetism? Really?

I had never heard of this person prior to this article and hope to never hear about him after.
This was a hatchet piece and very unprofessional at best.

I expected better from the AJC, but sadly their publishing this article just confirms my assumptions.
Is that the best that can be expected from the AJC , publish an atricle from a New York anti-gunner that does not know the people or laws of Georgia and proceed to belittle us for pleasure?
I am ashamed of the AJC and will not support anything AJC affiliated in the future.

    Tim,
That's another myth... the people selling guns at gun shows are federally licensed dealers 99% of the time.

It's extremely rare to see a private person willing to pay the fees and such required just to seel an old gun or two.

    Not that it matters.

The Dept of Justice released a study a few years ago that showed only .08% of criminals claimed to have bought a gun at a gun show. Less than 4% claimed to have bought a gun in a private sale of any kind.

The vast majority of criminal guns are either stolen, or bought using a shill (a straw buyer) at a licensed dealer.

Blaming gun crimes on the availability of guns is like blaming pedophilia on the availability of children.

Mr. Feinblatt's entire argument is proven invalid by the City of Chicago. Chicago has the most restrictive gun laws of any municipality, closely followed by the state of Illinois. The laws, background checks, etc. are ineffective agains gun crime in the city as evidenced by the number of shootings in the city.

In Fact if you look at the top three restrictive cities when it comes to gun laws, you also see the top three cities in total number of gun murders in the country.

Mr. Feinblatt's argument is false and it is dangerous. His assertions will only serve to disarm the law abiding and have no effect on the criminals. The simple fact of the matter is that in every jurisdiction that promotes law abiding citizens to own firearms and carry firearms, a swift reduction in gun crimes occurs.

stop blaming the guns and the people illegally caring. Most crimes are committed by people who illegally of guns. I agree we should be more stricter especially at gun shows one selling the guns. We shouldn't be too harsh on the people who are allowed to carry the guns. When I carry my firearmI obey the rules that are in place and I respect the rules. Guns are smuggled from everywhere. They always end up in the wrong handsand that sickens too. We should enforce the laws we have in place a little more then when conveniently necessary. So if you ask me if the gun laws or two lacks I say they're just not readily enforced.
