Should Britain ban the burqa?

I love it when a woman wears the burqa. I really do.
But this is not the religious or cultural issue.
Burqa is often worn by male terrorist, who try to avoid the security checks.
It is not even about Muslim. What prevents non-Muslim terrorist from disguising as a Muslim woman?
As long as the police cannot proper identify the person, burqa should be banned in UK at least in the public places.

  • Adam - 9 years ago

Oh shut up with 'If i went to a muslim country and wore 'Christian' clothes I'd be stoned'.
You bloody tourists go to our countries, almost nude and have you been stoned? NO.
So get out of our countries if you're going to complain on the Niqab or Burqa.
And so what, I can guarantee that if all Muslims were to go back to their countries, pretty soon the Islamic countries will be targeted despite Muslims remaining in their own countries.
And all you deluded idiots who have a religion, I doubt your god likes it when you have so much hate against another religion.

  • Putri - 9 years ago

I just wanna say one thing,
Burqa is a culture of middle-east muslim, so actually it's not a sin if a muslim not wearing a burqa.
I understand if most of society want to ban the burqa because they might feel strange if they see a woman who cover most of her face.
But if you ban the burqa, you should ban the women nakedness, too!

  • Fatima - 9 years ago

I dont see why there is such a BIG isssue in regards to the burka and veil! Muslims wear it out of their own will, you dont see muslims having a big ho ha about the weastern being half naked when it comes to summer. You ban the veil, then BAN the fact of nudity in public. Simple as. Not fair nor right to only point fingers at one culture just cz they hide their beauty to the public, and someone mentioned 'you cant tell if its a man and women behind the veil'- be realistic, of course you can- the eyes and features give away alot of details. Im sorry but this whole topic is getting rather annoying now, we have the right to live our own way and religion in this country, so abide by it and let it be. Haters will always be haters, beggers cant be chosers.....Our Islam shows our true way of life, the way we should be, same goes to you and your religion, if everyone just understood each others right there would be NO misunderstandings. Ues thers alot of hate and racial comments, but i guess its what tthe worlds become into. You hav the right to wear the 'cross' around your necks, us muslims respect that so respect our way also. There are places and timings where us muslims know our limits of the veil, eg- at an airport for facial checks, we allow it and remove veil. So it isnt like we are conpletly out of the world.
    Thank you

  • Ryan - 9 years ago

    This argument is annoying.
No, a Christian is allowed to wear that clothing because that is the religion of this country. Walk round over here in a burqa fine (well not really). Walk round in the muslim countries in full christain clothes, I can't imagine what would happen! It annoys me when you get people who travel here from other countries expecting their whole life handed to them on a gold plate. I wish we could just throw religion out of the window. There is clearly no god(s), science has proved it many times over. Why does genitalia exist when god created us? Ask yourself that one. Why do we have sex education when clearly, god gives us a child? Backwards world we live in! I feel sorry for the war veterans and the women who helped in this country. They are in second place now. Give the benefits to the foreigners who don't come over here because "their country is poor" or "there is war in their country" Bollocks, its for the free benefits and the free NHS. You know, those services invented by the british for I wonder who? The british. No, you do not have free right of clothing, neither do us English people. Wear a T-Shirt with a sw*****ka on and you will be glared at and arrested. So don't go therer with free rights and that shit. I have seen so many Asian kids in Christian schools who clearly worship that "very real and very important god". Ok, so do the british kids on that school but that school was built for the church/by the church to educate british children about their god and normal education. So why are there Asian kids there? Britain is fucked up now. I swear, by the year 2040, Britain will be full of mosques and sinagogues and all that shit. Churchs? Oh yeah, if you go down this road for 6 miles and take a right and continue for another 3 miles, go past the mosque and then the other religious buildings, you might find a church, although it might now be a car park for the neighbouring mosque, I wish people could open their eyes and see that these people are no good for this country. They throw the racism card or the "I also pay tax" card. Sure you pay tax, but you cost more to Britain and the working British people than what you will ever put back In to the economy. I don't care what people think. I am sick of hearing gibberish down my ear everytime I walk past foreigners. I hate seeing the burqa and thinking is that a man or a woman? I wish life was like in the 50s and 60s, a country where everybody worked hard for their family, times were better back then. I rest my case

i think it's easier for the law aswell, i dont know why convicts dont wear them, no affence mohammed but me mum n dad made me not god, if god/allah made everyone why would we need sex? why doesnt he cure the world of all illnesses instead of us looking to scienctist for help? am pro science and anti reglion, i am pro england laws and rules not religious laws and rules

I hate to break it to you all, but ALLAH DOESN'T EXIST. Neither does Santa Claus, and neither does the Easter Bunny.

Grow up and open your eyes you deluded idiots.

It would make more sense if you let the members, long running members of the British army decide as they have fought for this country an the veterans who were told what to do by this country and at the drop of a hat did exactly what this country demanded now their children have to be raised in this country that they have fought for died for and left themselves handicapped for life and we know veterans who live in this country seeing what they fought for and maybe it's not what they imagined they were fighting for or maybe it is but all in all if they aren't happy with the country all it is they should have the right to make these decisions after all it wouldn't be great Britain without the great British army

  • Nicki - 9 years ago

Yes I 100% think the burka should be banned in all public places in the UK and those found to be wearing it should be imprisoned. If a British woman was to go over to any Muslim country and dress how should wanted then we would fined/jailed probably even stoned in the streets. Treat them how they would treat us in their country and in 12 months will any luck they might of fucked off back to their own country and once again the UK will be free!!

  • realist - 9 years ago

my vote to ban is nothing to do with anyone's beliefs, I just feel that the country is safer when everyone can see each others faces, and removes the possibility to take advantage of the Burka. Its alarming that people think that its OK.

  • Amna - 9 years ago

Ok so you want to ban the burka which is there to stop men from perving on muslim women. Why do you care this is the UK where you dress to express and muslims express their religion... And if you do ban the veil then the nuns clothing should be banned too as their clothing is similar will that be ok for all the christians No init so its the same for muslims and their religious choices

  • Mohammad - 9 years ago

Come, Live in peace. Do not fight.

There are bigger problems to worry about than what muslim women should or should not wear.
    Today its muslims and islam.
15/20 years ago it was irish/ russians. As enemy number one is depending on which country you were in.
Next it will be someone else.

    Save NHS,
I ncrease the chance for jobs for all.
Lower the university fees so that in 20 years time UK population is not uneducated.
Keep human rights act and dont let it be abolished andreplaced by british bill of rights.

Live in harmony. An Instinct of Man to follow. Follow one god. be good to thy neighbors and care for elders and love those younger than you. Study hard, work hard, pay taxes, and strive your whole life to please God and seek the truth behind our existence.

Religions arent exactly man made, they all stem from one religion. That is believing in God. God plays a part in everyones life. If you are believe there is no god, then good for you. But i hope you find your purpose in life and hope you one day believe that God exists. Its called blind faith, even athiest and evolutioist have blind faith.

    SEEK THE TRUTH
    THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

Peace to all of you here :-)

And Im very surprised nobody is making comments retaliating the comments made by @S.Walker@

Many live in this country becuase their own homes have been destroyed. And then there British born muslims like me. I wont call any other place HOME. Britian is my home. I was born in Britain. And I work in a company and integrate like anyother whilst wearing a white long robe covering my enitre body and full grown beard with NO extreme views, I follow the quran, Not the quran which is portrayed in the media.

My family members are workers and teachers who wear the full face veil from the house to the school. Where they remove it for security purposes and for the convenience of the children they are teaching

  • Mohammad - 9 years ago

Everyone should be free to wear what they wish.

As for integration, the muslim woman that wears the face veil integrates just fine.

Look at the commuters in London underground, their faces are NOT covered and are not dressed in the "oppressive islamic dress" which some believe, Do these commuters chat to each other? how many say hello to strangers and smile? how many strike up a converstation with the person sitting next to you? How many care?

A face veil does not prevent integration. Walk up to a muslim woman wearing a face veil and strike up a conversation, you are guaranteed they will happily converse with you

  • Mohammad - 9 years ago

And yes, We live in Britain and abide by the laws as good muslims and non muslims alike should strive to do so.

Take a look at Indian Influences in Regency British Dress (c.1790-1820). In the 18th Century, it was common, and even necessary, for East India Company servants to adopt native dress. Did they adopt that dress???

    NO, THEY DID NOT.

There is evidence to support that most Europeans maintained their own dress, although most dropped formalities like wearing heavy wool coats, except on ceremony.

Why did they not embrace the dress of the natives and why did some of them openly refuse to adopt native dress???

Because Mankind's dress is more tightly constrained by occupation, society and uniform. It therefore does not allow the freedom that other cultural fields have, like ones choice of food.

  • Mohammad - 9 years ago

To Englishmans comment, when the message was given to Moses, Abraham, Noah, Josheph, Jacob, Jesus, the message was enjoning towards good and forbidding evil and submitting to ONE God. As time passed, peoples religion was modernized, and so the message was forgotten. So God sent another messenger. During Jesus' time Gods message was wide spread, then the people adopted the norm and embraced the modern ideologies and cultures and the "modern world" . The message changed again (bible re-wrote by man).

Finally the Quran was revealed to Muhammad Peace be upon him through Angel Gabriel, and unchanged to this day.

Whenever a nation embraces the modern world and everything it has to offer, the message of God is forgotten. This explains why Practicing muslims will never embrace everything the modern day has to offer. Only the neccessary things. Or else the submission to One God will be lost.

Hate and Intolerance and war and fighting is an instinct of Man. Please dont look at Middle East, Look at the West. Is Hate, intolerance and violence not the Norm there? You say Islam rules with an iron fist and AK47, come on, The modern world which you embrace rules with atomic bombs and drones with international politicians guilty of war crimes and not arrested

  • Mohammad - 9 years ago

    To Mary

You said Muhammads (my) poor grasp of english shows how he embraces the west. Let me tell you, my fingers are fat and my phone is small. Work it out!!!!

Spelling mistakes does not prove jack, but maybe I will take care of my spelling while writing this so that Mary can understand. And God commanded Men and Women to dress modestly and lower their gaze / eyes so that they may be protected. As you know, a man is more attracted to woman's beauty when it is revealed as opposed to a woman attracted to man when his beauty is revealed. Again, work it out!! Its not hard understand that Women possess a magnificent beauty which should be covered if she wants to protect herself as their own desires are strong and the Devil will always want to lead Gods servant astray.

Men also have to dress modestly not revealing their body parts and not making himself attractive with the intention of flirting etc as that is also the devils work.

Nature intended that marriage be the correct way to be intimate to who you love and thereafter make a family

Summary: Men and Women both have to dress modestly as that is more pure for them even if they think otherwise. The jilbab or the long robe that women wear is actually the best dress to cover the entire figure and also a scarf to cover the hair. The covering of the face is worn freely by practicing muslim women who dont wish for their faces to be seen, as this also causes Men to gaze at them which they feel uncomfortable with.

moter cycle helmets are only for safety however covering our faces are for religious purposes thers bigg difference uno!

  • olly - 9 years ago

If I have to remove my motorcycle helmet. How come they can keep their faces covered? Security laws should extend to ALL. They call themselves British, but do not want to live by British law! Two tier system. Wonder why so many people have had enough!

  • muslim and proud - 9 years ago

wen non muslims say to muslims go bak to your country how about uf we wer birn in britain how abount if this is our ,ountry wer we wer born becuse we can be british muslims unoooo!?

  • Lovely.Lady - 9 years ago

So the burqa is simply a symbol of a religion, correct? As in the same way that for Jews the Star of David is; For Christians the Christian Cross; For Sheikhs the 5 Ks; For Buddists their orange tunic - I think most people would agree this this statement and it goes for all religions from around the world. In Britain, we are a multi-cultural, diverse, religion tolerant country. Mosques, Synagogues, Churches, etc are all able to be built in many cities and towns.

However, I personally have voted yes for the banning of the burqa - why? Having spent 2 years in Qatar and 1 year in Abu Dhabi - though Abu Dhabi is more Western - other forms of religion are banned!

In Qatar for example, Christmas and Easter are not allowed to be mentioned. There is a church that is multi-faith but the symbol of Christianity is forbidden on the outside. Children in the international schools have their reading material monitored so that any mention of any stories that 'insult' Islam is forbidden. Jews who have been to Israel are banned from entering any Muslim country. Any form of religious instruction in international schools is banned. The list of singular society is endless!

So if we in Britain are tolerant then the same should be practised in all countries. Religion is supposed to about celebration, peace and joy - not hatred and killing - as in Islam.

As expats in places like Saudi Arabia and Qatar do not try to change their laws because we accept them, please stop trying to force Islamic laws on our Christian Country. Muslim countries need to look towards the West for guidance about how to be tolerant and diverse. Places like Qatar and Saudi Arabia are more in need of the expat workforce so be thankful that we are willing to go there in the first place.

  • Hokken - 9 years ago

If the "moderate" Muslims had the balls to take care of their most radical zealots this debate would not happen. Unfortunately the daily violence emanating from the religion of peace has created a fully justified climate of suspicion, that's not islamophobia is it is islamo-realism. You can only blame yourself.

  • Abbie Turner - 9 years ago

Anyone could pose as a Muslim female and do bad things. In certain areas this is appropriate. Going into a bank we're not allowed to wear sunglasses or hats. This is a security issue.Muslim women are allowed to wear the burqua anywhere else. So what's the prob?

  • muslimphobia - 9 years ago

if you ban the people who ware the islamic veil well there wouldnt be the veil would there ,not rocket science is it lol

  • muslim girl - 9 years ago

Whoever thinks that the burqa should be banned just because this isn't a Muslim country?! This isn't a Jewish country, this is a Sikh country, this isn't a Hindus country but no one talks about their religion and Christians cover their body from head to toe, who complains about that? Just because you haters are jealous of Muslims and the religion, haters of Islam only hate Islam because they haven't got anything else better to do expect from getting jealous of their perfect life

  • muslim girl - 9 years ago

This is just stupid! Don't Muslim women have freedom and human rights? Why can't they wear the burqa? Don't they have a choice of what they want to wear? Can't they show modesty? Can't they follow their religion? What's wrong with it? Most people voted 'yes' that they want the burqa to be vanned because they are jealous of all the Muslims because its the only religion that their believers still commit to and the worlds leading religion beating every other religion. Some people say that Muslims just came to this country for money and to steal all the jobs, but that's false they came here to work, provide for their families and they are be able to work more than any one.

  • hfxbklljfd nj pp - 9 years ago

and fir whoever sed that if a christian went to an uslamic country they wud expect them to dress in islamic clothes well uno wat.no that is wrong because muslims dknt care what other people wear because they have a.right so what is it to people if we cover up because everyone has a right and so do we hear that and if you stop us from wearing tje burka y dont you stop nuns covering tjer heads or sikhs not wearimg turbans or preusts not wearing robes y not because it exactly the same thing isnt it????

keep the burqa what is it to you if we wnt to cover up just go andind your own business go back to your own religion we can do what we want and this Is modeat for us have you got a prolem? well what now?

  • Gg - 9 years ago

yes it should be banned. The UK is not a Muslim country so why should they wear what they want? If we ever go to a Muslim country wearing our normal clothes we would probably be beaten or murdered and be ordered to wear Muslim clothes. Get rid of it...

  • Muslim - 9 years ago

I don't see any reason why the burkha should be banned at all! It's so unfair! Its like, what if the Bible was banned? All of you would be absolutely devastated!
Sikhs wear the turban, Christians cover themselves from head to toe and now a Muslim does most of it and everyone's going ballistic? Covering her face and body? A Burkha is just a peice of cloth! Get over it and let us live in peace!

  • S. Walker - 9 years ago

As another poster pointed out many people even non muslims are running to leave the UK due to high tax and lack of family time. Instead you find quite a lot moving to the ME. The point that people keep making about going back to your own country for many the UK is their own country and for others who want to move out cant because the UK and USA have basically invaded and destroyed country after country. Maybe if they could rebuild everything they destroyed people would happily leave escpecially if they could keep their grubby paws off all that oil and minerals gas gold diamonds etc etc. You folks who keep telling people to leave have no leg to stand on. If you invade an destroy a country the citizens in those countries should have every right to move in to this country because all their infastructures hospitals schools were destroyed by your govts. All those people want is to live in peace an get on with their lives. So now they will have to do that here.
    Stop invading destroying other countires.
    Stop with underhand deals.
stop forcing people to take interest based loans with the imf. Stop forcing your pollution and dumping it in the sea off other peoples coasts.
    stop forcing gmos on people.
    etc etc
make your govt accountable they have caused the deaths of their own soilders as well as civilians abroad for their own greed not to benefit anyone in any way except themselves. You guys are just the serfs an slaves wake up. You are being used.
    Today its muslims and islam.
15/20 years ago it was irish/ russians. As enemy number one depending on which country you were in.

I find these items of clothing very intimidating. This is England, not Iran or any other Muslim country. Having worked in London for many years and witnessed how the town of my birth has not only been taken over by foreigners but is in danger of losing its culture. When I have seen these women wearing this form of dress I just see eyes staring at me which, as I have said is very intimidating and quite frightening. If they want to practice their religion at home, then that is up to them but, personally, I think their religion is archaic and brutal and has no place in today's society.

Please point me to chapter and verse in your book as to where it says the face mask, or as you call it Burqua is mandatory. I bet you can't because it does not exist! All religions are evil so a curse on all god's and religion's including allah or what ever his name is!

  • Fatimah - 9 years ago

Legally, the burqa is NOT a threat to society because, in airports, police stations etc, a person wearing a burqa would reveal their face to an officer, providing the individual (the officer) is a female.

There is only reasoning behind action, therefore it is logical to conclude that the burqa should not be banned SIMPLY because there is no reason to ban it!

It's just a piece of clothing. People say it harms women, well so do bras and high heels and the objectification of women in the media, we don't hear about any major government authorities complaining about those, do we? With this reasoning debunked, we can say that the movement to ban burqas is based PURELY on Islamaphobia and not for the love of our human sisters. Because the reason some women wear burkas is because they want to protect their modesty, why should any of you have a problem with that? If you are allowed to walk around the street half naked and not be questioned, there should be no reason whatsoever to ban those who wish to cover themselves!

There are those who say people could hide stuff under them when they go to schools or airports, well we can hide things in baggy pants. Does that mean we should ban those as well? Those along with every clown car, trench coat and big sweater in the country. Madness I say! To ban an article of clothing is an affront to humanity and reason.

  • Anne Finn - 9 years ago

Omer Nisar If a woman is naked she has nothing to hide you can see her full body, her face ,her hair .there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of in the human form it is beautiful . In Western culture we like to see faces we wish integration and understanding . However when a woman is fully covered up and hiding her face she is not integrating she stands apart sending out the wrong message that she doesn't wish to be part of our society. If that is the case then she should go and live where her wish to hide her face is acceptable . All religions are man made if man didn't exist religion wouldn't exist - think about it . The Universe would still exist but religion wouldn't , it was created by man to help him cope with death, Islam is just another such religion one of many !

  • S. Walker - 9 years ago

    2 things.
    1. I have been to the middle east and no when western women go to places like Dubai they dont cover up. So no when in rome do as the romans do apparently only applies to non whites in the west. Not whites going to the ME.
    2. This is a classic divide an conquer. Distract the people with nonsense while we privatise the NHS the Universities hike up their fees and we sign under the table deals like the Ttp and basically mess up the country while people are distracted by the latest bogeyman. Please dont fall for it. Saving the nhs the local A n E the local library is more important than what some women want to wear.

  • Anne Finn - 9 years ago

It should be banned completely as it is an item of clothing that encourages the wearer not to integrate it separates them from the rest of the community around them . It is being worn mainly as a statement that they do not wish to integrate with normal Western society . Unfortunately Islam is not compatible with Western culture and is a medieval backward religion . If our open Western way of life is not to their liking they should find a place in the world more compatible to their beliefs. It is not incumbent on the West to adapt to Islam they certainly make no allowances towards Western culture . For security reasons and integration reasons it is important that you can see a persons full face I certainly find the full burqa face veil demeans women it is not something we should accept in a civilised , modern society .

In the Name of Allah (Arabic name for God - the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe/s and all that exists, matter and anti-matter. The Creator of all that we know about and all that we don't know about. The One and Only God, Everlasting and Eternal), the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Islam means submission to Allah and all His Commandments.

When we submit to Allah we are in harmony with our Creator's Laws. When creation is in harmony with the Laws of the Creator - there is utter and complete peace. Hence Islam is also translated to mean peace.

Our Creator Knows what is best for us. Accordingly our Creator's Law, whether we can rationalise, understand or not, is what will give us the most optimum success in life and in the eternal hereafter.

Before you criticise or reject Islam and the Laws of our Creator...I invite you to read and understand the Qur'an - the final revelation from God (God of all of mankind and all of creation including all the Prophets such Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad - peace be upon them all).

If you have a question about Islam, please ask a Muslim who follows Islam...please do not let your view of Islam be influenced by the media or the actions of a very few who have a warped interpretation of our Creator's Laws and Commandments.

The veil is a part of Islam, the wisdom of which can only be appreciated when you understand that real inner peace and success in life and eternity comes from submitting to Allah.

I wish you all all the best and peace.

    Miah

Regardless of what faith you have. You should be able to wear what you feel like and what you want to.It states in our religion that we have to wear this. if you do ban this do it but that's your loss there are thousands of Muslims in the U.K that wear veils. if you want your population to go down so be it but I think k we should be allowed to wear them if u take away our veils what's next will you also take our burkas away as well ??? If We do move to our own country your population will be running down there is not just like 15 Muslims in U.K I'm pretty sure there's millions.
We should at least have the right to wear veils its a free country.
    Please consider this.

  • Si - 9 years ago

Just ban it!!!!! We're the UK and not a Muslim country if Muslims insist on living here then they should follow our ways not bring their own with them. If we goto Muslim countries then any other woman from any country had to abide by Muslim law, women not aloud out in public without hovering skin up.
We follow their rules why shouldn't they follow ours.

  • Colin Nisbett - 9 years ago

Regardless of faith or religion, England is still a free Country (for now anyway)..... as long as they don't walk around in public naked they're good to go. Next they'll be banning anyone wearing a hoodie or wearing a cap low over their faces from certain shopping centers...

    Sorry what's that!

I've just been informed that's already happened.

  • Mary - 9 years ago

I like how it is assumed by Muhammed that any woman who is not covered up will automatically be un-faithful to their husbands ! What about husbands being un-faithful to their wives ? Would covering their faces prevent this ? I doubt it !

I know a muslim man who assumes non-muslim women are easy. He is married but spends a lot of time admiring and pursueing other women of all races. The burqua is a way to enforce control - nothing else. It should be banned as you are in the UK not a muslim country.

Muhammed's ignorance towards Western ways shows in his poor grasp of English - i assume he lives here yet can not even write the language properly. Educate yourself and adapt to our country if you insist of living here. We are not and never will be amuslim country. Your religion needs to adapt to modern society. It is the only one of all the major faiths not to do so !

Why should the burqa be banned? Every individual has a right to wear what they feel most comfortable in. At first i didnt wear a burqa and i felt so uncomfortable. I always wanted to wear a burqa so then i started wearing one. I wasnt forced at all. My mum, nor do my relatives wear it. But every each to their own.
I understand for security reasons at time you have to show your face. For example, at an airport, so i would not wear it in such situations.
People may think burqa wearers are oppressed. Not at all! I live my life to the fullest the way i want. No one tells me to do so and so and Im really happy with my life.
It'd be a nice world if everyone could accept you for who you are and the character you possess, rather than the way you look.
Dont Judge a book by its cover!
    Peace

Islam is a vicious evil backwards faith that has no place in modern society

  • englishman - 9 years ago

Mohammed. Thank you for addressing my comment. I have to say though your argument is sadly lacking and really makes no sense.
All I will say is that my opinion of Islam is that it is an oppressive religion that refuses point blank to embrace the modern world which has changed over the past 2000 years. Its a religion where hate and intolerance and violence is the norm. Whilst admittedly this hate and violence is not practised by all is defended by most through silence. While the rest of the world has moved on and in general holds freedom care and kindness to the world with or without a 'God' The followers of Islam have stubbornly stayed in the past refusing to embrace the modern world and all the good it could do. Instead it rules with an iron fist, an AK47 , bombs, and obscene acts of barbarity inflicted mainly on their own people. All in the mane of some mystical god who in all likelihood doesn't exist. No Mohammed Islam is a man made religion just as every other religion is and was started to enable the ruling elite to control the masses by fear. Most of the world has woken up to this fact and treats religion as it should be. As something generally good but treated with scepticism and not to be blindly followed. You may belive in your god's instructions but most don't. Its up to you to respect that if your to live with them.

to Mohammed : you say ... You would like to flirt with one and take her out to dinner and cause her to be
unfaithful to her husband when mareiage vows have been taken and is beleived sacred. ...

Yet the man is not instructed to cover His face to stop women looking at Him blah blah. In fact he is free to do whatever he pleases .. and does with no reprimand. Your comment supports blatant control of women and nothing else.

    Englishman.

Your point is good. But everything we wear is a fashion accessorie.

From shoes to scarves. But is it revealing or not? The full face veil is a choice i agree just as praying to god is a choice. Mankind has free will. But its upto the ibdividual if they should dress modestly or reveal their body parts to 10year olds. The girls cover their face as the face is the first point of contact and the first attraction.

If you all disagree yoyr wrong on the face part. The face plays the entire game.
So covering the face isnt too bad.

Its just the very few extremist that have commited evil acts whilst wearing a face veil.

Wheres the education gone in britain?

    Its gone to 9000 pounds

Learn learn learn. Theres never an end to knowledge

  • Mocha_Man - 9 years ago

@ Mohammed _ According to Quran-Islam.org website, the burqa doesn't get a mention in the Quran, and that the Quran "instructs men and women to dress and behave modestly", which in my eyes doesn't mean covering the entire body. A burqa may be of use in a desert sandstorm, but we don't get these in Northern Europe. If the burqa were compulsory clothing for a Muslim woman, and the rule listed in the Quran, every Muslim woman on the planet would be wearing one, but this is clearly not the case.

As for no reprisals, I can well imagine the psychological warfare (and worse) that goes on in a Muslim household were one of the women to decide not to wear a burqa.

The wearing of the burqa is alien to western society, who live in an open, and free environment. The wearing of the full face covering is a retrograde step, and just shows domination over women, as does having them walk behind the male, and having multiple wives, as practiced by certain Muslims. Muslim girl states that Islam means peace. We have proof of that "peace" every day in the newspapers. More people are dying every day due to Islamists. The statement from Yousuf, just shows what a twisted mind he must have. As already mentioned here, if Muslims do not like the way that people live in the western countries, nobody is forcing them to stay. When in Rome ! ! !

These so called religious items of clothing are nothing more than fashion accessories and should be treated as such. Whilst I don't agree with any religious clothing, I can understand the use of a scarf to cover a woman's head if they feel the need. Lets face it some Christian women do the same, Nuns. However I can see no justification for wearing a face mask which is what a full burqua is. As I understand it's not a REQUIREMENT just a personal choice. If these women wish to wear a face mask around their homes go for it. But outside take it off. We do not live in a stone age society such as some Muslims wish to impose on their 'Brothers' and 'Sisters' in the middle East. This is the UK not Iran.
Just one last thing. The reason I came to the conclusion that these Burquas and head coverings are nothing but fashion accessories came from watching two Muslim women in my local town centre. They were in there early 20's and wearing the scarf covering their head. I believe that these scarfs are there to preserve a woman's modesty, fine. However these two women were stunningly beautiful. They were immaculately dressed from shoes to the top of their heads. The scarfs they were wearing were black but not a type I had seen before and they were pined around their heads and shoulders in a very careful way. The most striking thing about them was their perfect makeup, as I say these women were stunning and it would seem they knew it. Its not like me to notice such things but I did and I noticed the reaction of people around them looking at them such was their impact as they walked down the street.. The thing is I thought they were supposed to be modest???? So fashion accessories, look at me look at me, nothing to do with Islam.

  • mohammed - 9 years ago

Mocha man please understand. The cross and burqa are two diffeeent issues. Some probs do need their heads looked at. Maybe i do. Maybe you do.

Because your wrong saying there is fearof breaking an ancient rule for fear of reprisals.

Your in britains 2015. Walk the markets and london and leicester and newcastle. Thousands of muslim girls do not wear the burqa. They are not fearing reprisalsas there are no reprisals. How can there be when burqa is a command of god, not of people.

Everyone is free to wear what they wish

We have witness it. But why do we still choose to remain blind

  • Antone - 9 years ago

Well listen, im worried that sikhs could be hiding something under their turban... Oh wait, they're not muslim so it doesnt really matter.. I also think that nuns should not be allowed to be covered from head to toe either.. I also think, that IF a woman is not allowed to cover up, then allow them to walk in public totally naked... Oh wait, your not allowed that either?!? Cumon people.. Lets all understand that we wouldnt be equal but we can be fair. If one wants to practice their religion, why shouldnt they be allowed to do it to its climax. Likewise if one doesnt want to practice a belief, do what u do to the max too... Peace n love!

  • Mohammed - 9 years ago

Everyone, pro burqa and anti burqa, know this that the Burqa in britain is a security issue, but its blown out of propotion. Its come to a stage where people rights are affected. And in future the rights of christians and non muslims will also be affected as new laws are made and tightened.

The burqa is a simple command of Allah as only your creater knows whats best and pure for you and so by wearing clothing that conceals your beauty is in fact preventing possible harrassment, rape, and evil.

John Wilcox just made a comment admitting alot of muslim women are indeed very pretty. There you have it. You would like to flirt with one and take her out to dinner and cause her to be unfaithful to her husband when mareiage vows have been taken and is beleived sacred. By wearing burqa you would have no idea that she is that pretty hence preventing all the evil above.

Please all communities do your research as burqa is a command og god to prevent evil and to subdue one own desires as that is the purest way.

Just the way a Nun is covered head to toe to prevent her body shape and figure from being noticed and a means for her to commite evil.

God help us all and give u all the understanding.

As for security and identity, every muslims woman knows at the time of requesting ID she must remove her veil for the neccessary duration for her to be identified.

Its ridiculous how some people say a man or criminal can be behind a veil. A driving test examiner required the candidate to show her face before taking the test, and free to wear the burqa again during the test.

Goverment buildings have security measures where everyone is identified at the entrance. One identified and passsed security, she is free to wear burqa in building or remain naked if she wants.

Britons need to learn about islam and its teacings. Not just let the TV guide you. Half this stuff majority of Britons Parents did NOT teach them rather the TV taught them

I mean no offence to the lovely parents of some, but in this era , television is seen more than we see our parents.

Wake up. Live free, and live together.

All races and religions should be given the right to live their way of life. Your not in 10000BC. Your in Britain.

  • Mocha_Man - 9 years ago

People commenting that the wearing of a cross is the same as a woman wearing a burqa need their heads looking at (which would probably be quite difficult, the burqa being in the way and all.) I think that most burqa wearers in Europe are so under the thumb of their nearest alpha-male, that they're too scared to break this ancient "rule" for fear of reprisals. Woman aren't supposed to be commodities, but that seems to be how they're regarded by the Medieval commenters here. I hope these people manage to find their way to the 21st Century, because they have no place in Europe if they don't.

  • Kaya - 9 years ago

@John Wilcox where did you get that rubbish from? Sounds like you made that up

  • Yousuf - 9 years ago

What is the purpose of uncovering women. When she wants to cover herself. Are you wanting to impose your ideology upon others without looking at the bigger picture. Go do what you want to your daughter or sister.

  • adam - 9 years ago

The best of men are those who are the best to their wives....prophet Muhammad pbuh.

  • Omer Nisar - 9 years ago

Burqa shouldn't be banned. If women are allowed to walk around nude why can't they cover up completely? Women are very precious to muslims just like gold and silver is very precious to people. Gold and silver is put in a jewelry box because it's so precious and hidden so it won't be stolen. Similarly women are so special and because they're special they're hidden from others using a burqa. The chances of rape and harassment are minimised if a women covers up in a burqa but a women walking around half naked has evil eyes on her all the time

  • James Davies - 9 years ago

John obviously you have a pHd in history
That's amazing still reading some lame fairly tale, do you still believe Santa gives you presents? You've been told a pack of lies Child.

  • Muslim - 9 years ago

I dont see the logic in this. So its okay for the christians from the bible to cover from head to toe and now all of a sudden when Muslims do the same everyone has a problem with it? Double standards at its finest.

  • Ayesha - 9 years ago

It is wrong to ban the burqa the majority of Muslim women wear it out of choice not because they are being pressured into it by their husbands. I am Muslim and I don't wear one but my other family members do. How would the Christians or Catholics feel if they banned them from wearing the cross?

  • John - 9 years ago

The Muslim faith to me treat women as second class citizens. To say that only their husbands should see their face is showing that their must be a lot of jealous Muslims. You can dress modestly without being covered in black. It seems they want to keep women locked away in case they maybe fall in love with a Christian. I think in many places if this happened their lives would be in danger.

  • muslim girl - 9 years ago

Only women wear the burqa to represent modesty and that her body should only be reveal their bodies to their husbands because there is no need for them to reveal their bodies everywhere they go, its called respect. If all these haters actually knew what Islam means which is PEACE and what the burqa meant, they would be saying none of this! THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK!! AND TASTE THE WORDS BEFORE YOU SPIT THEM OUT!

  • muslim girl - 9 years ago

,tattoos however Muslims are not allowed to wear ONE piece of clothing that represents their faith? You must be stupid if you think that. Christians can wear their religious clothing and all other religions but not Islam? Go sort yourself out. LETS KEEP THE BURQA!!

  • Jason - 9 years ago

I don't understand what all the fuss is about to be honest, I believe in freedom to dress how you feel. There's more of a identity & security issue with men and women walking around with sex changes.

  • Valerie Sadler - 9 years ago

in certain places like Holland have done.. I believe they should have the right to wear the burqa as they wish as it is their right to practice their religion as they want to. I would not like it if I was banned from wearing a cross as is my right to show my beliefs too. However, in some public places such as shops, banks, Government buildings the burqa itself should be banned as it could be concealing not just their bodies but something more sinister.

Sorry I meant at "The Kid"

  • Jessica - 9 years ago

At Zubes how are they ignorant not showing thier face . Please explain as I'm confused .

  • The kid - 9 years ago

The burkha should not be worn in western cultures it's not our way of life there used in crimes and they are just ignorant not showing there face if they don't like it move back to a muslim country we didn't ask for them

  • Brenda martin - 9 years ago

School driving tests court rooms.any one could hide behind their. A face should not be hidden showing your true self

  • Zubes - 9 years ago

John, your words are simply ignorant and foolish. One should carry out the necessary research before making such ignorant statements.

  • John Wilcox - 9 years ago

It is wearing the Burqua that is discriminatory not the banning of it.
The most important point is security. If a persons face is covered it could belong to a man or woman. People are identified by their face. Many of these Muslim women are in fact very pretty so wide hide themselves behind a black tent. It has nothing to do with their Q'uran but then Islam is misogynistic. The rules behind Islam were invented by a warlord in the 7th century for the benefit of the male sex. He told hid naive followers that his ideas were sanctioned by god. But it was his god, not the same one claimed by Abraham or the one claimed by Jesus Christ. They all invented their own gods.
