Use of personal information by companies I choose to do business with is usually acceptable. It is the prospect of uncontrolled exchange of data, and the explosion of spam, that is annoying.
Service Providers (Companies) deal more with individuals from whom they extort fees for sales of modems and bundles. They leave out the majority rural poor in their poverty. In this way the rich - poor gap is always kept wider.

There are great benefits from the world-wide web and all evolving links, but if anyone abuses your privacy (a) you may not be aware of it, (b) you have no capacity to respond/correct misinformation, and (c) in any case, it is too late!

Google's monopoly on information is frightening. Google search can be incredibly useful. But on the flip side, if it's not on google, it's like it never happened or it's a non-issue. Google has corporate interests, and it can control information flows and therefore the public pretty much as it pleases. Corporates who control the electronic platforms also control the mainstream press who wouldn't dare and are too cowardly to defy the corporate hand who hosts their electronic existence. The big losers in this is the public who never get the real important news which affects it, but only the fluff that corporates are comfortable with.
