She is a breath of fresh air! She is in almost every scene in the series, works long hours and travels all over Scotland in this show. I have read Diana's books and I believe she embodies the character of Claire. She and costar Sam Heughan have an amazing chemistry. Ron Moore said they had a hard time casting Claire but they finally found her in Caitriona and I believe they made the right choice. She was given the gift of this amazing role and she ran with it. Finally quality tv is back in this Outlander series. My vote is for Caitriona and everyone involved in this great show.

No!! Cait does not deserve an Emmy nomination. Her acting is very stiff and wooden, not natural at all; her inexperience really shows. She has very poor range of expressions or emotion; it's either angry, rude and sullen looks. Where is the tender emotions she should have for her husband. Where are all the other emotions we should see in her face and hear in her voice? She's very likable in her public appearances; I suggest she would do better to just be herself in the series and stop "trying" to act. It seems as though she doesn't realize that "acting" is suppose to look natural; it should not look like you are trying to perform on stage. Cait doesn't really "own" the part of Claire, it seems as thought she is just repeating words. Grant it, she was much better in episode 15 and 16, but her overall performance in the series is not Emmy worthy.

No. Her range as an actress is from A to B. No subtlety, no nuance, just pouting and anger and heavy breathing. No sensuality at all.

I totally agreed with the comments above. To watch Catriona Balfe act is to be carried away into her world. I watched a lot of TV , free to air and Cabled and she is really a breathe of fresh air with her great acting and her beauty.
I wish the people in the Emmys would look at a new great talent with fresh eyes and not , as many said, behaved like cookie cutters .
CATRIONA BALFE is a amazing actress and deserves to win an EMMY.

Of course she deserves to be nominated. She's the hardest working actress on television--slogging out long days in horrible conditions. She's in every episode in nearly every scene and she carries the show firmly on her capable shoulders. She convincingly portrays a World War 2 era nurse uprooted from her own time and shipwrecked in a precarious world. It's more a survival story than a melodrama--but thank you, at least, for not calling it a romance. I think you may be the first to understand that it is a multi-dimensional series that defies genre. That could hurt the series among Emmy voters--but anyone that gives the show a chance will be transfixed by Caitriona Balfe's Claire Randall Fraser. TV needs more intelligent, determined, autonomous women.

I completely agree with both of the above!

American viewers quickly get into a rut, and no amount of other wonderful choices can sway them. I've spent the last 10 months inviting friends over to watch Outlander, and only two have arrived. Both quickly asked if it would be ok if they try to catch up.

If it were shown on regular tv here, as opposed to the monthly premium channel Starz, it wouldn't be necessary to campaign for votes. Enough viewers would be hooked with the first episode, just as I was, and all the producers would have had to do is stand back and watch the viewer numbers mount.

The performances are the best on series television; it's a given that everyone on screen is giving 100% of their abilities, even if they only get muddy, cold and wet every week.

I only wish my mom could have lived long enough to enjoy the show. And she would have been the first on the plane to Scotland, and I could hear her opinions right now on Sam and how naturally gorgeous Cait is.!

Fortunately, my husband likes Outlander too, enough to agree to our trip to Scotland last month to see the film sites with a wonderful tour guide. That's where I discovered that not only had I fallen in love with the series and actors, I had fallen in love with the country! (Maybe Mrs. Fitzgibbon needs another sister??

Meanwhile, we'll just have to hope the wonderful obsession that is Outlander touches the voters as much as it has the rest of us!

I only hope that all the voters took the time to really watch the nominated clips. NO ONE with any experience in the film industry could not be impressed and in awe of the quality of talent and dedication in Outlander.

...not to mention: working all hours in punishing weather, unwavering in her ability to carry every episode on her back, and incredibly brave. I trust the TV academy will honor her mastery of this epic role.

She exemplifies what we want in a performance. Strong, beautiful, smart, nuanced, tender, vibrant, carefree, fierce, open, honest, and generous. She leaves it all out there. She can emote & express like no one I've seen. So often there Emmys get into a rut and just vote cookie cutter. If you examine an arc and the through-line she takes, it's AMAZING! She is a revelation & breath of fresh air. She is never false on screen & you can SEE HER LISTENING! I NEVER see that anymore. Not only does she have a natural chemistry with her co-star, she makes the audience feel so drawn in by her performance, we feel like we are experiencing it. To not honor her in some way would be a travesty & sign that the T.V. Academy really is out of touch & phoning it in....I have faith!!!
