I cannot believe we the people of Alabama or any confederate state would allow and idiot Governor to walk on our History! Next they will remove and burn our history books! I am apauld at this and personally would like to know what we could possibly do to stop this! We will be a communist country before we know it if someone doesn't stand up and fight these changes!

Bentley has pissed on the graves of my Confederate ancestors. My sincerest hope is that I may live long enough to return the favor and piss on his. (My lineage predates the Revolutionary War. Our family has served in every conflict this nation has been involved in.)

Governor Bentley removed the flags the same day the Google announced a $600 million investment in Alabama. Coincidence? I think not. We now know that Governor Bentley thinks the lives of 32,000 Alabama soldiers who died defending the State, along with the suffering of 20,000 widows and 60,000 orphans were sold out $600 million. Sorry Governor, but my heritage isn't for sale at any price.

IT IS NOT RIGHT TO REMOVE OUR CONFEDERATE FLAG, THE FLAG SHOULDBNOT BE THE BLAME, OR CAUSE FOR REMOVING OUR HISTORY. BENTLEY CAN'T FIX ALL THE WRONG IN OUR SOCIETY, NOR THE IGNORANT PEOPLE IN IT....THIS THING HE IS DOING IS VERY DISTURBING......

After watching the news cast of Bentley removing the flag, it seemed to me that he was more interested in being the first Govenor to remove the flag than realizing what the majority of the people in the state wanted or what the flag really stood for and to not get caught up in the media propaganda. Time for a new Govenor.

so, the gov'ner is erasing sacred history from the grave sites of confederate soldiers (ie; monuments). This tells me he is a pandering politician with little regard for working citizens who are too busy contributing to society and raising families to raise a fuss about the fashion feeling of the day.

Does Bentley actually believe that removing the Confederate Battle Flag will stop people from killing one another? If he does, he is a bigger idiot than I thought. In addition, that flag didn't shoot anyone in N.C., nor anywhere else in this universe, some racist idiot did. Do pencils cause mistakes?? Of course not. People do!! Guns nor flags kill people either. People, not inanimate objects, kill people! Bentley is a liberal in conservative clothing. No matter what Bentley believes, this will never change the fact that Montgomery will always be the CRADLE OF THE CONFEDERACY. No matter how many flags he removes, he will never change that history to suit his personal agenda. History is what it is! Removing the flag does nothing but cause anger and resentment in the state. We really don't care that Bentley has satisfied the wishes of the race mongers, Al $harpton, Je$$e Jack$on, Alvin Holme$ and other$, who profit from racism!! Bentley has merely stirred the pot!! What an imbecile!!

this is history! You can't change history and you can't apologize for history. You need to learn from it and leave it lay. This is a confederate state and they should be able to fly that flag. It has nothing to do with the color of ones skin. I do believe the flag should fly.

What a dumb call!! All anyone can say is racist! If you don't agree that it is then you are bashed and called ignorant. This flag is a trademark of the south! Why should we today have to keep paying for something our ancestors did. We did not hold your ancestors as slaves. Hence the term African American as you were brought here from Africa if your ancestors did not pay the price for you to be over here then you would still be in Africa fighting plagues without the luxuries you have today. And it is labeled as kkk. They flew the American flag as well you don't see it as a sign of hatred. Everything is stereotyped these days. If your white your racist. Just like black history month and mlk. We are forced to support your history leave ours alone! Get over the dream! Just like for instance Obama running for president you were all ready for a change! You got one alright that dummy has this country in one heck of a mess!

I am rarely impressed by the Republican office holders in this state, but today Gov. Bentley did the right thing. Thank you sir.

  • jack Quickly - 9 years ago

the flag should fly... if they don't like it go back to Africa (Obamas birthplace) and fly whatever they want to over their grass mansions..

  • Beth - 9 years ago

Good for the Governor! It belongs in a museum alongside the right to own people.

  • Diane - 9 years ago

With everything going on in our Country, people are concerned about a flag. That is a part of our history.

  • bill bob - 9 years ago

Good lord this negro crap is getting old. Why dont we just tell the truth? Blacks are blaaaaacks, they steal, murder, rape, and when we say anything, its racist. Lol stupid honkeys.

  • Chris - 9 years ago

No re-election for him. Hi Gov, What about the black schools, black colleges and the places and streets named after MLK? They affend people too because there are no white only schools and colleges. What about that soon to be ex governor?

  • Richard - 9 years ago

Could someone, black or white tell me how many flags has picked up a gun and killed someone. All this is going to do is bring more trouble to the state!!!

  • John - 9 years ago

It just proves that the Alabama Governor is willing to lower himself to the level of those that would try to erase history for their own good. That flag has flown along side the Alabama flag for a long time! It is part of this states history and legacy.

Taking it down at the whim of a few corrupt racist NAACP followers that have never paid a dime in taxes and continue to turn this free country into a socialist sess pool... well, that's what we get I guess for electing a liberal college jock.

I promise this is the last term he will serve.

If y'all government thinks that this is going to stop any trouble u r stupid ,cause people do the talking and the action not the damn flag ,that flag is part of our southerns family and history ,so keep it flying but ohhhh I am sorry ,I am talking or commenting to the government that thinks banning guns will stop the crimes and killings ,,,hahaha keep dreaming y'all cause it won't ,,,,,,just remember that we people here have the right of freedom of speech and that flag is our speech here in the south ,,,,u will never totally get rid of this flag

Sad day for this state. How long will it be before we remove the Christian flag and all the other flags. I can't believe what is happening to the state and country that I love. God help us all and our children and grandchildren.

I grew up in Pascagoula, MS. I had and still have black friends. I am a friend of Ole Miss. I still go to Ladies Football Forum, the Grove Bowl and when I can get tickets to a football game.

  • todd ready - 9 years ago

If he removes the flag because he is SCARED then he ought to remove hiself.........

  • Laura - 9 years ago

    I'm happy to see this.

If we are going to fly "historical" flags only to show our history, then the Union Jack of Great Britain and the French National flag, as well, should be flown.

Our history is already reflected in the Alabama flag.

I totally agree with Governor Bentley on this one...

  • Bruce Sims - 9 years ago

Although the battle flag was supposed to have been rolled up at the conclusion of the Civil War it has been used by the KKK, skinheads, and other hate groups who don't understand its meaning. However, it must be remembered that Jeff Davis took his oath as president of the CSA on the steps of the Alabama State Capitol. The first Confederate national flag would be appropriate in terms of marking this historical chapter in our state's history. The battle flag doesn't belong there, as it conjures up memories of Gov. George C. Wallace standing in the door at Bama, the Selma Bridge, and Bull Conors and the dogs and fire hoses in Birmingham; as well as the the lynchings that took place, beginning in the days of Reconstruction. Still, there's a place for the national flag, with the battle flag being viewed as a historical flag as well at such places as Ft. Morgan, Ft. Gaines, Spanish Fort, Blakeley, and the battlefield at Selma to name a few.

As long as we continue to allow things like this to happen, people will just continue to push and have history rewritten to prove a point that shouldn't even be on the table. Want to call racism, why don't you take a real long look in the mirror. The hatred needs to be bread out, not instilled. I am just happy the kids that come to my home with my kids don't see it they way all these thugs do, and that's what you are educated or not. Even when my kids are in public with friends they get horrible looks because they are not the same color as the friend standing beside them and it is not our race that is doing the ugly looks. Sad that MLK stood up for them all to be friends and loved and y'all have to make it evil. I am a proud nonracist white American that doesn't allow the past to dictate what these kids future are.

  • Gary Adcock - 9 years ago

There are 6 flags.of the confederate states make sure you are using the right one for the way you display it most people misrepresent it

  • Tracy Benner - 9 years ago

Hey, Gov. I am a taxpayer, My taxes say let the Flag ( Confederate Flag) fly proudly with the American Flag. If you are that yellow, maybe you ought to step down as the Gov. And along with that If our Flag can not fly above the capital We need not re-elect you, or your cronies. We the tax payers have control over the flag not you. So either keep the Southern flag flying or you can go home.

Clearly people need a history lesson they should also check out the Constitution of the United States it's not the Constitution that gives us our rights the Constitution states God gives us the right

  • Russ Jones - 9 years ago

if we take the confederate flag down why not just destroy the history books too. This is a part of Alabama history. Like it or not.
