    Hi Shary
I got chikungunya a month before you did, and I'm still suffering. I'm retired and live in St Vincent and the Grenadines, almost the entire population on Bequia was affected. My experience has been the same as yours, even the alarming knuckles turning black symptom, only mine is more the backs of my hands which look blackish now. My hands are not so painful now, but my feet seem to be getting worse, walking up or down hill is very difficult, and the roads seem a lot harder than they were! Hate my tiled floors and I yearn for fluffy slippers and thick pile carpets. I hope you continue to improve, if this thing comes back I'm going to leave for a cold climate immediately.

Sorry - I just realized that I said I got it in 2015 when I meant 2014!! Guess it messed up my clarity, too.

My heart goes out to you, and I truly hope your symptoms end soon. I got chikungunya at the end of October, 2015, in St. Thomas where I live. It had spread through the Lesser Antilles like wildfire. I am retired and had heard that it hits harder the older you are, but your symptoms were as terrible as mine! If my husband hadn't cared for me I would have just gone hungry in bed in the beginning. The acute phase was unbelievably painful, and once I became mobile again I still had to pry my hands open in the morning for months. It took about 4 months to get back to normal - if that's what you'd call it. The lingering pain is mostly in my hands and feet, between the joints, not in them. For which I feel lucky! About 3 weeks ago I had a relapse that lasted almost 2 weeks. It felt like the worst pinched nerve in my back with added pain in my legs. Oh, did I mention that my knuckles turned almost black and continue to be this way? And the insomnia never went away! I remain hopeful to have a full recovery one day soon, and wish the same for you.
