Should Metro Vancouver adopt a pay-per-use system for water usage?

We need to boot Nestle out of BC and end the exploitation of our water supply. Our water is their biggest cash crop and our government just allows it to be given away for almost nothing while they think of how they're gonna take more of our money...

  • What - 9 years ago

If we had to pay by use, Nestle would have to do the same thing. Its not about who needs to pay and who doesnt; it's about paying or not paying for water. It makes sense and would keep people from abusing water. If it works in other regions like Nanaimo, why not here?

We have been on water meters in Nanaimo for many years. I think it is fairer. You pay for what you use. If you are a water waster you pay more. Just like anything else. The more you use the more you pay. I don't think the survey was fair. Probably only Vancouverites voted.

Before they make us pay; make Nestle and other corporations pay appropriately!

water is a human right to have it, and corporations are just too lazy to find a way to make more money so by making water a pay to use for the people is just a way for them to line their own pockets while they themselves don't pay the same pay per use and just stuff their pockets with human rights at the same time, so we might as well just dump them down the drain once they start charging us. Obviously water is a necessity in life, but look at how many companies waste water and then tell use to control our water usage, and if we start paying for the use of water, every cent of that money should go towards drought effort. not a cent to the governments paychecks at all, and put that money towards helping metro Vancouver's citizens through this shortage of water.but I am still against the idea of taking it and making us pay for it and have voted no myself because it is still ridiculous to pay for our basic human right. Make it so companies stop wasting water, and the government and the municipalities and other business and stop letting companies purchase our water during this drought.

  • Really? WTF indeed. - 9 years ago

It only makes sense. Most other jurisdictions do it, and it's not a huge amount. It's just enough to make you think twice before watering a lawn, washing a car or wasting water on children in a backyard pool (if you absolutely have to, use greywater). Water is a precious resource that shouldn't be wasted.

Pay for water? Is the governement this stupid and careless about the ppl? Charhing for water in a place where it rains almost all year long? Do something useful with our taxes and find a way to utilize the rain !!

i live in rural sask and although we don't have metered water it costs $140 a month and you can't even drink it. add in bottled water for drinking and the price keeps going up

It's not about paying to be healthy or drink the water, it's for the morons out there that don't give a crap about anyone else but themselves and are wasting it by washing their cars every few days, cleaning their walkways or watering their lawns with sprinklers when we're at Stages 2 & 3... If you don't abuse it you won't pay for it, it's just that simple.

I agree with mrsmacky - pay for what is rightfully ours while Nestle takes our precious resource for free and sells it for a significant profit? I don't think so!

  • Wtf - 9 years ago

You expect me to work minimum wage hardly able to even pay my own rent and you want me to PAY to be healthy and drink water, you want me to PAY to be able to clean my own body, you want me to PAY so that my child won't sit in their own filth. You want me to pay for water? Then I expect you to pay me to live, because I can hardly do it as is

  • Bullsh!t!!!! - 9 years ago

What about all the poor people that can hardly afford to live?? What do you expect them to do? Stupid idea.

  • mrsmacky - 9 years ago

why should we have to pay for our water and Nestle basically gets it for free?? I'm all for conserving water.. but this is some serious bs
