I think Sarah's dress on its own was the most impressive transformation and by itself could be boho-chic. The issue is styling. Pairing it with the shoes and headband she did make it look more 50's inspired than 70's. Had she used platform shoes and done an all lace headband over her hair or even as a wrap it would have been spot on!

I too LOVE the wedding dress but to my eyes there's not a drop of BoHo in it.

Gemma's refashion really captured the style!

    Hey Talia!
Did you know that Sarah and I are friends in real life? In fact, after I signed on to do Refashion Runway, I texted her the link and told her to apply too. She's truly amazing and a wonderful person!
We actually have more than just sewing in common, we both share the same religious beliefs. As part of our beliefs, we both follow a conservative code of modesty which requires us to cover our shoulders, have our skirts and shorts be at least knee-length, have our midriffs covered, and wear things are aren't exceedingly low in the front or the back. So while we did both make crop top and a skirt at different points, apart from them both following the same modesty guidelines, they are actually very different.
From a seamstresses standpoint: Sarah's skirt is a child's size, it is also an A-line, and it's fitted using an elastic band. Mine is an adult pencil skirt, which is fitted to me using two darts. It has a hidden zipper in the back, a separate waistband, and a kick pleat.
Sarah's crop top buttons in the front and has a separate panel piece over the shoulders. My crop top fits over my head due to the knit fabric in the back, mine also has flared sleeves, and a decorative neckline. While they are both crop tops, it's important to remember that crop tops are very in fashion right now, so the fact that both of us made them isn't really anything significant. In fact, other contestants have made crop tops during this competition as well, including Laura, The Accidental Seamstress, during her refashion last week.
I appreciate your regard for the integrity of this competition, and for looking out for Sarah (I love her too!). And I promise I did not copy her design. For most of the refashion I was actually planning on making a dress, but switched to a crop top so I could wear the top with the other skirt I was able to create from the kurti.

    Wonderful really wonderful.

These ideas were all sooo amazing! Inseriously wish I could sew! The only thing I found confusing was a repeat in a style that had already been done. I love Kara's crop design but feel like it is very similar to the crop top Sarah fashioned earlier in the competition. Even the sleeves are the same length. Are people allowed to do the same design others have done previously? Other than that, I love this week's challenge

Wow! A lot of hard work went into all of these refashions. I especially appreciate Kara's background notes about the beautiful Indian garment, not to mention the funny photo of her holding it up in despair because it was too small!
However: Rather than join the argument of what counts as BoHo, or judge the complexity of the various processes employed by each designer, I looked at this week's entries through the eyes of a customer who would want to buy and wear the finished product regardless of its past life. So, for me personally, the only outfit of these that I would ever wear is Sarah's lace dress. (Why refashion something if you'd never wear it?)

I loved all the looks this week and had a hard time deciding. I'm a real sucker for lace, especially wedding dresses. The transformation from ballgown-princess to modern-classic with a boho twist is truly inspirational. Plus, there will be extra bits of lace, etc to play with later! But what finally swayed my decision was the versatility of Kara's outfit. Not only the two looks featured, but each piece can be used with others for more outfits. That's truly boho.

Kudos to each of the ladies who obviously have found that their only limit is their imagination. Beautiful work ladies!

Definition of boho-chic: “It’s street fashion of The Village in NYC but coupled with Vintage and a little Hippie and Gypsy thrown in for that added touch. You know when you see it. It’s got a 70’s flair to it-very Retro.

A fashion trend that is part bohemian and part chic. It is tied to the vintage phenomenom in fashion where the trend was to bring back vintage styles for the modern era. Boho chic combines organic, colorful, detailed, folk-inspired pieces with simple, modern pieces. An example would be wearing a beaded peasant dress with a white tanktop.

The trend is said to have been started by actress Sienna Miller in 2005. She wore bohemian-style clothing in the movie Alfie and continued to sport the garb regularly in London. People began to imitate this style, and fashion designers took notice.”

I think Sarah nailed the boho-chic refashion! Vintage, lace, retro, it’s very bohemian. While the other ones are impressive, I feel Sarah’s fine detail to that perfect fit and articulate sewing skills shine through in each of her refashions that triumphs over other constestants craftsmanship that I’ve seen.

I enjoyed seeing all the very clever refashions from everyone this week. Although I thought Sarah's wedding dress transformation was beautiful I don't see how this represents the bohemian-style (Boho) look. To me it is vintage but not Boho. I felt Gema and Kara did the best modern Boho designs and I especially liked how Kara's pieces could be made into several complete outfits. I loved how she took embellishments off the original dress to create completely different designs, and the vest was stunning with the back embellishment.

Loved the wedding dress refashion! BoHo, absolutely! I happened to have a dress similar to that "back in the day" job well done!

All amazing refashions again ladies. It is fantanstic to hear the stories that went along with them too. But I have to say that I absolutely love lace.
So much creativity is very inspiring. Thank you all for your hard work.

All of the refashions (transformations!) are unique. But I finally went with Gema -- the one that seemed the most boho and complete to me and the one that is still modern enough to wear today.

Hello everyone, thank you so much for your sweet comments! I've noticed some of the comments and I'm somewhat perplexed by some comments saying my dress isn't boho? When I googled "boho-chic dress" on Google, most of the pictures were of a lace dress. I thought lace was the epitome of a bohemian style, am I wrong? I believed I was following the challenge and the theme 100% when making this dress. I wouldn't make something that I know would get docked points for not following the challenge. Anyway, I'm so honored to be in this competition among such talented ladies, I was blown away by the others' refashions this week!

Sarah's wedding dress transformation is phenomenal. But it's not BoHo. Laura's top is good, I realize it took a lot of time, but it is at as complete a look as I like to see. I was torn between Kara and Gema this week. So I went with the outfit I found most wearable. Kara got my vote. I must say, you ladies are amazing and inspiring!

Lovely, Amazing and Creative! All of them! Such a hard choice. All the women have such a sense for their own personal style. I preferred Kara's white outfit over her red skirt outfit, but which one do we consider for voting? The red one was pictured for the vote so I guess that one. Every week I think how much work went into all the creations. Where do they find the time! Thank you for sharing them all with us!

    Sooo much talent!

Although I appreciate all the work and the beautiful finished product that the wedding dress produced, it doesn't strike me as boho, like the other refashions represent. I am shocked and amazed by the nightgown transformation! Who would've thought....

  • Anna Bell Hollaway - 9 years ago

Kara’s is fantastic! The boho style is the most apparent and she made it beautiful. I fee like her project is totally in style. She’s got my vote this week.

This was a difficult choice, all of these talented ladies have vision and creative work. I chose Sarah's lace dress. I was married in 1978 and the wedding dress was of that time. I had a simpler dress, but a similar feel. Sarah's refahion is beautiful. Also appreciate everyone's respect for the vintage garments and the people who owned/loved them.

Stunning....took my breath away with the wedding dress transformation.

Absolutely stunning transformation - I love it!!

It is amazing the talent, to have the vision, to gleam the hidden gem that lies underneath the old dress. Beautiful work, the dress, the head piece are gorgeous!!!
