Back in the day, Russia was a friendlier place than the 1970's. The parents were allowed to go then. I don't think I would do it now.

The only countries i can think of like that would be north Korea and Iran which both have a tendency to imprison traveling Americans for political purposes. At least north Korea has released the Americans they were holding. Iran continues to hold four and we couldn't even get them out with this worthless deal. Any other country we are having issues with like Syria are just too dangerous for adult peacekeepers.
