What should be done is a thorough traffic study of the entire area. That would include the intersections of State Rt 25 and Wickham Avenue and Love Lane and New Suffolk Avenue and the area in front of the Mattituck shopping center and also the Factory Avenue intersection. All of these intersections in the past year have become areas of increased traffic. If you close off Sound Avenue there will be one less area to escape off Love Lane. I suspect that traffic will continue to build year after year and like it or not there will be a need for traffic lights at these intersections. The Town of Southold needs to request a traffic study if it has not done so as yet. The study could take many months if not a year to complete prior to implementing its recommendations.
