Always for landscapes, sometimes for portraits, never for sports and wildlife.

Got 3 -- A regular tripod, Gorilla Tripod and a Rice Bag (which is the greatest if a bit heavy) -- great for taking pictures out of car windows as it sits perfectly.

Due to my shaky hands, I use a tripod always. No matter what I use a tripod and it is a pain in the butt but I know I shall as long as I am doing photography, I will be using a tripod or something that I can set my camera to steady it to shoot.

Although it doesn't get used quite as much since obtaining lenses with effective VR, my tripod is always close at hand and still is used with regularity. The same old Manfroto has served me well (with a few different heads) for many years. Durable and rock solid, I've lugged it for miles through swamps and up and down mountains but the burden was worth the opportunities its presence created.

I love my tripod for long exposures, hdr, panos, and general use. However, I am becoming physically incapable of carrying it, a Gitzo that only weights 5-1/2 lbs, so I am looking for ways to do without it.

Other than sports action, I always use a tripod. I didn't used to, until Joel Grimes challenged me to, even in studio for portraits/headshots. And let me tell you first hand, there is a considerable difference.

More often than not I use a tripod or a studio stand. Locking down the camera improves my compositions, eliminates camera shake and allows me to concentrate on what's in the viewfinder.

for long exposure night shots I have to use one, then for landscape shots one gets better results using one

Not when I shoot sports, though!
