I took a book on meditation out for my grandson. He was all into it until he saw that a girl was posing for the photo's. He called meditation for girls.
I had the same problem with David Croft. (The guy who wrote Dad's Army, It aint half hot mum, etc.) Not having a middle name, I used a fake initial. Then, I took on my step-father's name, 'Milligan', just after he died. What is your middle name? Did you think about writing it in full?

I think you should borrow a page from J.K. Rowling's book, and write as S.C.Potter for all the reasons you mentioned. It's too bad about having to share your name with so many. There is actually another Bea Garrard in the world, but I am the only Naomi Baltuck, so far as I know. Still, I have pondered the use of a pen name, just because it is such an odd name.
