Do you think the recent openings of small businesses around the state is a sign the economy is better?

I voted no simply keeping in my that just because people are getting loans, does not mean the economy is better. What will stimulate the economy more is if more purchasing comes from products made in the state, right now it would be interesting to see that figure..

There is a movement going on to transition back to small farms and rural living. Maine is unique in this area..so why do we tend to think that big business as a way to better the state economically? Let's do something different while every other state goes down that road. I am a believer that there isn't just one way, but many ways to achieve success. There is the trap of becoming a slave class but I don't think the people of Maine would let that happen.

While it is great to see people pushing forward and creating jobs, these jobs are low paying and often seasonal. It just shows that we are transitioning into a service state and not a manufacturing state. Our state (having the oldest population in the nation) while perhaps being the wisest, will become the poorest. We will be a true vacation land.

Its not a sign of a better economy. It just shows that people are adapting to the fact that traditional good jobs are a thing of the past and people who are willing to take a risk are trying to make a better life for themself instead of waiting for magic jobs to appear.
