Do you think it is the responsibility of the federal or state government to help displaced mill workers?

I voted State as there is no option of "neither"!! poorly worded question!!
Every time the Federal Government gets involved the administration of the effort is the carried out by an inefficient, over paid, bureauracy that then only takes more control of our State government and increases the cost of State government through multiple layers of required reports.

I think it depends on how old you are. If your young, 20's or 30's, than it's no ones responsibility. It's easy to find a job if your willing to work. If your in your 40's and 50's, than it's the states responsibility, jobs are out their, but you definitely need help finding it. and if your in your 60's, than it's the federal governments responsibility, because you mite as well go straight on Social Security because it's almost impossible to get a job.

No one is responsible to help. The government state or federal should not be helping the corporations. This is what a free market should be with no government involvement other than some common sense regulation so that people can live healthy. We are slaves to money and the pattern will continue. Have a good night everyone.

If anyone has noticed, the questions in these polls are left so vague as to create multiple right answers. I can only assume they do this to create discussion and debate. I took the question as to mean closed mills when they say "displaced workers". We all know why manufacturing tanked in this country. The government past an act and their partners the corporations sent their manufacturing jobs over seas. Did everyone forget? So ya, their responsible.

Yes I do think the state and federal should do everything they can to help the mill workers that are soon going to be out of work. But the one thing that I do not like is these companies coming to the state of Maine in the state and federal give them money to start up this company and they make it sound all nice and pretty like they say they're going to hire a lot of people indeed you that but they run the company for such a short time then out of the blue they declare bankruptcy or they come up with some other excuse to pull the plug, at the end of the day it just puts a lot of hard working man is out of work these people need their jobs without their jobs and cannot survive or pay their bills or keep their house or keep the same lifestyle that their custom to. These companies need to be ashamed of themselves I think we should make it so difficult for them just. Up a company without certain guarantees and place in and writing before the state and federal give some any funding at all I think it is high time that we need to stand up for the hard work and people of the state of Maine.

I can only draw from my own experience, but when ever I lost a job I started looking for another one (right away) There are jobs out there if you are will to work.So I guess I have to say it's not the Government or the State to find jobs, for those who lost their job.

I totally agree with you Don Johnston. No job is guaranteed.

Talk about leading a question. Your only choices are that government must help. How about government policies like smaller corporate taxes and less interference in energy costs for environmental activism so that business and commerce are freer. Show me one state where these policies create jobs and I'll show you at least three where the opposite does.

It is the responsibility of both to make these people get the help that they need because most of these company's get funding from the government and then they take the money and run, we have seen it time and time again in this state and others so if the Feds and the state can gave these company's $ they can help the workers, that's the least they can do.

I do not believe it is anyones,it is just a job like any other job that might be lost,,,,,,so they should not look for help other than unemployment like anyone elese......
