How would you rate Project CARS’ physics & handling compared to Gran Turismo & Forza Motorsport?

Project cars compared to other games has more tuning options and is more realistic than gt6 and forza but it doesn't have that wide of a selection of cars/tracks.But it definitely makes up for that with realism.

I don't play loads of different racing games so I can only compare this to NFS Shift 2 which I have on the Xbox 360 but, I really enjoy how you have to take it more steady before the tires warm up, and I like how the rain really effects the handling and how you have to turn on the wipers etc. Also, the fuel gauge; which is a nice new touch. One thing that I'd like to see more realistic is the crashes. Where cars get smashed etc, like on Shift 2 for example.

Its really good I learn so much from playing it every day !! I now can really go faster in my really race car !!! I just hope the would get the Mazda miata "spec miata " cuz that's the only reason I may buy PC for I racing !!!!

Compared to GT6 or Forza... I don't own either. The last Gran Turismo I purchased was GT5 when it came out. But in terms of realism of handling, it really lacks in my opinion. When you throw a 200 hp fwd hatchback into some sharp s-turns at 40-50 mph, (in real life) you don't go careening off the road. If you were to attempt the same feat in pCars with a similar car, you can make the apex and initial driving line fine, but immediately go speeding towards and then into the grass afterwards.

Most the time the physics are great for a. Console game. The crash physics need work

Compared to sim-cades Project Cars is good. Compared to Assetto Corsa and other simulators. Physics are only passable. Suspension modeling isn't bad, but I don't feel like the changes I make accurately represent what should be going on. I'm not a fan of the Tire model at all, I think it's very non-dynamic and lazy. Just in the spirit of constructive criticism

I'm only comparing against GT6 as I've not played Forza since #2 and don't own an Xbox. I will say pCARS hands down, trounces GT for the feel of the cars, even back to back testing the same cars on same track in each game using the same wheel (TM T300RS), and default car settings, pCARS is better by far. However, saying that pCARS makes setting up FFB and car geometry very difficult not only for casual gamers, but more experienced ones too.
The game needs to have a proper, and indepth explanation of what each setting does and what to expect if you increase or decrease them. The one or two line summary that you get on some (not all ?) global and per car FFB set up may as well not be there for what use they are.

It's such a shame to see how the KI is balanced in Project Cars. I've never ever seen such a bad KI in a racing game like in Project cars. Some examples: I used very often the LMP Classes or Formula Classes. At the start of every race the KI always drive very bad and touching myself. Also if the KI drives on the Kerbs, the fly like a airplane and crash! I have to say the crashs in Project Cars are also very unrealistic! I like the game and see the amazing potential, but after 6 Updates, Slightly Mad Studios dosn't fixed any any problems in the game, so that the fun isn't very high at the moment. I would prever to see in the future, that Slightly Mad really try to fix these problems in the game BEVORE any other new packs will worked into Project Cars.

Hi, Yesterday I've forgot a thing:
ROAD CARS are very unreal in them behaeviour. It's seems to drive with rear shock absorber completly gone.
It's like drive a cars with a central pivot and without stability in the rear.
I like the job you jave done for GT3 class, nice to find right cars way to move.
For the wheels, i think is necessary to deliver a patch with default setting of main Wheel cos is so complicated set in the right way but it's a big change if you set in right.
please concetrate to give us a default perfect setting of wheels for feel understeering and overstering.
    Thanks
    Best regards

I played with GT, Forza, Shift... The handling is slightly better than GT and Forza but less realistic of Assetto Corsa: it can be is mproved further. I strongly hope Project Cars does not take the arcade direction which was decided form GT and Forza teams

I think PJCARS is more realistic then Gran Turismo 6, for sure. Expecially during the moment when the tyres sliding, when you are a little over the limit. I think "sliding moment" are the most difficult to reproduce. In GT6 for example when you loose the car the feeling is similiar to have the tyres on the ice, that is not good cos you cannot control sliding for have a best performance and you lost all the "signal" from the road.
I think in project cars you have done a good job in the right direction, i can feel the signal from road and tyres during sliding moment in middle of curves, in a scale from 1 to 10 you have achived 5.5, gt6 is 0. So is a great improvement.

*I take that back. I got a bit ahead of myself and didn't read the next question.

This question tells me you are not really aiming for a true sim, and that is very disappointing. Shouldn't you be asking how it feels stacked up to other sims as opposed to GT and Forza?

  • Rens - 8 years ago

First of all, the physics and handling models are really different, but what made me choose for "about the same" is that all games feel as arcade as can be imo. pCars seemed a game with huge potential, but when it got released, I was disappointed of my purchase quite soon. it just doesn't meet up to realism.

I've never played GT. I found the controller very difficult to get used to compared to Forza, and it still frustrates me now. Forza has a more 1:1 ratio of stick movement to car reaction, personally I don't like the steering ratio thing. And in pCars we still don't have the full range of the brake trigger which makes braking so much more difficult.

I've played P.CARS with a Logitech wheel and the physics are fantastic, I only wish it would be made easier to play with a gamepad... I play on PS4 and compared to the way Gran Turismo 6 on PS3 handled the control inputs and the way cars feel with a gamepad, it's unacceptable. You need to overhaul the gamepad feel completely! Look at GT6 as THE game to beat for gamepad feel. Your defaults are far too twitchy and lack fluidity and consistency... Only other complaints about the game are with UI layout and design and the lack of a meaningful progression system. It makes it difficult for anyone other than a hardcore SIM racer to enjoy, especially for those of us who like to play offline
