I keep remakes like this and the King Kong remake in a completely different box. Before going to the theater to see them, I set my mind to the fact that what I am about to see, has zero connection to the original films and judge them strictly on their own merits.
The Chaney version brings great sympathy to the Larry Talbott character....the film score, the sets designs and atmosphere are superb for their time. Released in December shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, presented the public an escape from the prelude to US engagement into WW2.... a 70 minute escape into a fantasy world where an everyman falls victim to a tragic curse for his herroic atrempt to save a woman's life.
Nothing will compare with the 1941 version.
