I graduated in 1965 and never did we think of our name as a slur against Native Americans, exactly the opposite. We felt as if it were our way of honoring our city's heritage. If it must be changed, why can't it be the North Side Chiefs? That way we could keep the logo and this should not be a derogatory name that offends anyone. I feel that this change is really a misuse of the "Politically Correct" gang in this city! It takes away from our history and everything we as students accomplished while attending this great school. So sad.

Seems as if would be just as "offensive" as the current Redskins...
So leave it Redskins and continue a long standing tradition.
It's part of Ft Wayne history
Were the students given the option to vote for the current name ??

I graduated North Side in 1969. Leave the name alone. It has been the Redskins all these years. So just leave ir alone. It isnt hurting anything

Don't be ashamed of your schools history. Leave it the way it is. I'm from Oklahoma and know some native Americans... none of them are offended by this, if anything they are honored when a school or a Pro team choses a mascot such as yours. Be proud of your school and your mascot, not ashamed of it.

Why not North Side Natives? Keep the mascot but not be offensive. Some native americans DID wear head dresses. Who agrees with this statement/idea?

I think they should leave it be. Wendy Robinson didn't have a problem with it a year ago now she does, sounds fishy to me. If has to be changed keep the logo and native American theme. After all half our city is named after native American s.
There not just changing a mascot they are taking away our history and a part of who we are.

Nations would at least keep a touch of the Indian connotation as in Indian Nations. Raptors is cool but doesn't connect to Indians and I don't know how many were ever in Indiana
