Brilliant comments folks. My question to you is when was the last time criminals or terrorists went through a background check prior to obtaining any guns. Few and far between if any. When was the last time a gun law on the books was enforced by the courts in a way which prevented further criminal activities. We have states and other countries around the world that have even stricter gun laws including a total ban and they still have gun violence except it is against innocent unarmed unprotected citizens. This too is hogwash. As are some of your comments here.

Seems to be totally a bipartisan issue. It boggles my mind that anyone concerned with terrorist activities, homegrown or otherwise, would object to having background checks in place when someone purchases weapon. "he who has nothing to hide hides nothing". I've seen first hand how easy it is to purchase a weapon from an individual at a gun show. Do I object to what Obama is proposing to close this loophole? Hell to the NO! Bring it on.

I am truly appalled by the percentage of individuals opposed to the ideas proposed by President Obama in his address today. In fact, I'm wondering how many of those voting today even know what those proposals are. I refuse to believe that this many people are that ignorant or stupid. They must be just too closed-minded or disinterested to bother to get the facts. I also wonder how many of these same people would be onboard if the same ideas were being proposed by a Republican President. And I also wonder what their views on gun legislation would be if it was one of their loved ones slaughtered by someone who had no business owning and/or being in possession of a gun. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with stripping away people's 2nd Amendment rights. It has EVERYTHING to do with ensuring that those who do own and carry weapons do so responsibly and with a sane mind.
