I am so saddened that Endo What? did not win. I can't stand that it lost. This could've been so beneficial to the cause.
I am an Endometriosis patient aka Endo Sister, Silent Sufferer, Spoonie, and will not stop fighting for the awareness of the invisible disease.

I'm voting for ALMOST ADULT *-*

  • Alison - 8 years ago

While "Endo What?" did not win, I want to thank everyone who voted. This would have been a great way to bring about positive change in the way that this illness is viewed in society.

I have had to slowly rebuild my life after 15 years of pain that I was made to believe was normal or wasn't a cause for concern. My uniformed doctors at the time (I saw 9 before I found a specialist) we complete unable and/or unwilling to recognize how seriously it was ruining my quality of life. I lost my career, was unable to finish my degree, and all of my relationships suffered as a result of my constant pain, yet for years no doctor I went to seemed to think that endo could possibly cause that much pain. I was ignored or told to take birth control, despite being unable to tolerate hormones due to the severe physical and mental side effects they always caused me. I was finally able to see a specialist after getting diagnosed in 2014. I was one of the lucky ones, but this should be the standard of care as all other treatments result in only temporary relief of symptoms and the disease's disruption in a woman's life. Unfortunately, doctors and insurance companies refuse to acknowledge this and continue to cling to outdated treatments and standards of care. My surgery was out of network, and I got no help in paying for it from my insurance company. My story is not uncommon and this is a public health crisis. Women are dying from this disease and families are being ripped apart. In my support group last year a woman committed suicide because she couldn't find relief and could no longer handle the pain, after years of fighting through it. She was not the first and unless things change there will undoubtedly be more women who fall victim to the same fate. It is so much more than just bad periods! Education is key in changing the way this illness and treatment options are viewed.

So glad to see Almost Adults take this out. The GWC and Elise Bauman and Natasha Negovanlis have meant the world to my little sister. They helped her accept her own sexuality through watching their youtube videos and the web series Carmilla and have made her feel part of a community. Also the trailer looks awesome. I'm all for people who create content that encourages young people like my sister to feel more comfortable in the world

  • Em C - 8 years ago

I honestly think that either of the leading two are worthy winners, but I have voted for Almost Adults, as it also represents a group of people who are wildly under and mis - represented, and the huge support Sarah, Adrianna and the rest of the team garnered in such a short space of time shows how much the lgbt community yearn for positive images and representation for the community and by the community, and i will always do my best to support them wherever their careers take them from here.

  • Holly Green - 8 years ago

Is this rigged? So many comments for Endo What? but Ive seen our numbers not only slow but drop... how is that possible??

  • Nadine - 8 years ago

I have endo and have experienced women who have lost not only their reproductive organs but families, jobs, ability to have children, spouses, livelihood from this debilitating disease. This is truly a human rights issues not just a feminine one. If affects everyone involved and is considered to be a phantom disease that has no cure, no understanding of cause and no treatment besides surgery which is only temporary before it grows back. The pain it causes is indescribable at times worse than labour. Awareness is the key to open the door to more options of empowerment instead of the victimized approach women are subjected to - please vote for this film and let's get this process going!

  • Sean - 8 years ago

My partner suffers from the debilitating condition known as endometriosis "Endo". After experiencing this with her day-in day-out, I have come to know of many more women (in my family, extended family, their families, friends...etc...the list goes on and on) about how many women suffer with this and do not say anything because there is not enough awareness (even from some doctors) about how to cure it (or prevent it).

Please vote for Endo What? to bring this condition to the forefront.

  • Joann Reese - 8 years ago

    Hope this helps

    Endo What needs your vote!!
This disease is so misunderstood, and women (like me) are suffering in debilitating pain every day and there is no help, no understanding, no awareness. It is LONG time to end the silence and stigmas and misbeliefs associated with this disease.

  • Laura - 8 years ago

Almost Adults because it's a movie made by women focused on female friendship and that's so important. Also obviously when gay women write gay women they always feel more real. Glad to see something like this being made

  • Kay Feain - 8 years ago

Endo What.......9 out of 10 women and all the blokes out there need to know about this insidious disease which is incurable and difficult to diagnose

  • Channyn - 8 years ago

Please cast your vote for Endo What? Your vote could change lives. Endometriosis needs more awareness. This such a huge opportunity to reach hundreds of thousands.

  • Linda Williamson - 8 years ago

    ENDO WHAT?
Vote. Bring awareness. Awareness equals earlier diagnosis equals fertility. It's ok to talk about this. Speak up. Speak out.

  • Jennifer harris - 8 years ago

Several truly deserving entries...my vote was for "The 'S' Word" which I have viewed....Suicide is the most preventable type of death--with recognition of warning signs and what to do next--everyday people everywhere are helping others to live...this film also de-stigmatizes mental illness and emotional distress.
