Jesus has specified that Everything we do should be done in love. The 10% tithe was under the Mosaic Law, but we are still called to give. We can use the 10% as a guideline, but the rule should Never take the place of giving from your heart.

I have read your reply concerning the tithe, they were good and it shows you do have a concern about the accuracy of the word of God. Those of you who would like to read about this subject, i would ask you to read and study Gal. 4:4, matt. 6:38, 2 cor. 9:6

the Word of God decares quite clearly that we are dead to the Laws demands, and that should we choose to live by the Law, we must keep every part of the Law. We cannot have a foot in both camps, we cannot be under Grace and practise the Law as well. Those who are the elect of God have the love of God dwelling in their hearts, and give freely as led by the Spirit to do so. To tithe because it is written in the old covenant , is like listening again to those who preached it was necessary to be circumcised, and The Word said on that matter, oh foolish galations who has bewitched you. PAUL told Peter off rebuking him for seperating himself from the gentiles whilst the Jewish brothers were around. We do not rely on the Law but the finished work of Jesus.

Question is: Did the Lord Jesus condemn tithing as a practice or acknowledge it?
Note the following:
"Each of the three times when Jesus specifically mentions tithing, it is as a reprimand to the Pharisees. In Luke 11:42 he says, "But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone." In Matthew 23:23, which includes the comment from Luke, additional words are reported and Jesus declares that the Pharisees are omitting the greater parts of the law, which are judgment, mercy, and faith. He addresses the issue of Pharisees and tithing once more in Luke 18:12, by telling a parable in which the Pharisee brags, "I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess." Jesus ends the parable by saying "Everyone that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted."
I wish to caution anyone on holding to a notion that the Christian Scriptures only comprise of the New Testament and that the Old Testament is defunct. If we follow that then it's justifiable to pursue a Christianity of convenience which advocates that offering or tithing is a practice determined by an individual's worldview and to an extent their circumstances.
Conclusion: If Jesus did not abolish tithing openly we may be treading on sinking sand by relegating it only to the law of Moses. Therefore, tithing should continue not by convenience by obedience!

Tithing is not for todays christian as the law of moses puts it,I have lots on this . Any pastor who stands and takes up tithes is not obeying the scriptures as only Levites where allowed to do this, You can say Abraham did pay tithes but nothing is said that he ever paid tithes of anything he owned, just spoils of battle.Jesus never collected ,nether any of the apostles they knew only Levites could do this

Tithing under the law of Moses is no longer required because the scriptures make us understand that we are no longer under the law but under grace. Having said that, permit me to say that not tithing is equivalent to foolishness. Abraham gave his tithe to Melchizedek, the King of Salem (who is believed to be Christ Himself), to appreciate God for the victory He gave him over his enemies (Genesis 14:18-20; Psalms 110:4). His tithe was not based on the law since the law was not yet in existence. Christians are not partakers of the blessings of Moses but we are partakers of the blessings of Abraham (Galatians 3:29) through Christ Jesus.
If you are in Christ, He has delivered you from every curse of the law. he will not put you back there because of tithing. So, those who base their tithes on Malachi chapter 3 are choosing to go back under the law. That is their choice! I notice, however, that they usually emphasize the tithe but leave out the offering component of that chapter. It has been stated that the tithes and all the offerings of the law in Malachi chapter 3 amount to about 33% of your income. So, if you really committed to Malachi chapter 3 as the basis for giving your tithes and offering to God then you must give a least 33% or you are under a curse by your choice.
I tithe as a token of worship unto God to appreciate Him for His blessing in my life. I tithe out of the love I have for my God. When I don't tithe, I do not come under any condemnation or fear of being cursed by God. But I pick up again the next time. The result of giving out of love for God is that I end up giving more than 10% as tithe.
Giving to the poor and needed is great and appreciated by God but it has nothing to do with whether you tithe or not. You can do both as God directs you. Actually, I believe that tithing is a sign of humility. It is a way of acknowledging that God is your source!

well lets see god required tithing then and he requires it today, nothing has changed. paul says to bring your first fuits in to the store house.god has not told anyone not to give thier 10 percent. he has not and will not. he says were would a man rob god . in his tithes and offerings . he also says i am god i change not heaven and earth may pass away but my word will allways stand. we are not to keep the laws of moses but we are to keep the commandments from god. if do not pay our tithies we are robbing god and will be cursed as his word says. and god also said that if we do not pay our tithies and use them he adds a 20 percent usage to them. i know that we dont always get the beating with the sin but it will come when it will teach us the most out of what we have done wrong he loves us that much. and i am one that is glad he loves us that much

I agree with you Bryan. The tithe is not for the New covenant church today. That doesn't mean we should not give from the heart whenever we see a need but this 10% plus offerings that todays church trys to enforce is just as bad as TV evangelists putting guilt trips on people using the scriptures in Malachi make people think they are under a curse if they don't tithe. Church out in the marketplace is what we should all be doing, praying for people when we see a need and giving out in the street where the need really is, not filling church bankbooks up with hard earned money that should be going to pay bills and daily living expenses. The tithe was never meant to be paid out of your income for living but from what was in excess. Churches have taken advantage of people and manipulated people long enough, not telling them the truth about the tithe to obtain unlawful gain rooted in greed. All churches do not fall under this category, but most churches do. If you find one that doesn't please let me know. Paul contiued to work as a tentmaker while spreading the word and put no one under bondage as is being done today!

To tithe, as a command, was given to the children of Israel under the mosaic law. Paul, call to spread the word to the Gentile by authority of Christ, taught that we are no longer under the laws of Moses.
However, that should not convince us NOT to tithe. It should let us know that we are not commanded to tithe under the old covenant. Why people cling on to the tithe, but not all the other laws and ordinances under the mosaic law really confuses me.
I think that the law of the tithe is for todays christian world, because it is the same as in the bible, if the lord commands something, then it needs to be followed, and the bible tells us to give 10% of what we have (money) as an tithing.
“And instead of the tithes which the law commanded, the Lord said to divide everything we have with the poor. And he said to love not only our neighbors but also our enemies, and to be givers and sharers not only with the good but also to be liberal givers toward those who take away our possessions.” – Irenaeus, 130-200 AD (Against Heresies, Book IV, Chapter XIII, paragraph 3)
