My suggestion for the "other" option was "midshipman". Never surrender.

I've been called "dipshit" when I was a plebe; I think we can expand that to everyone since that seems gender neutral.

Consideration should be given to the formal rank structure where Midshipman is between Warrant and Chief Warrant. So, how about Ensign Junior Grade (JG) following the LT (JG) and LT. I would rather introduce the Brigade as the USNA Ensigns rather some of the alternatives. GO NAVY BEAT ARMY and Semper Fi!

Consider the title "Midshipper". It is gender neutral, descriptive, and denotes and has an actve connotation.

How can you refer to wo(men)? Just "wo" is as stupid as the rest of the idea. As the French song says "thank God for little girls, etc,"

Consider how words came into meaning in the seafaring services and trades. Midsshipman, subsequently shortened to Midshipman, was undoubtedly a slight or insult created by the regular, experienced sailors (most likely the crew...or enlisted...not the commissioned officers) aboard to refer to the new cabin boys and sailors who had to sleep and work in the middle of the ship where the ride in the calmest. The Navy should want to eliminate it on those ground alone.

This is why Donald Trump is winning.
