As I tried to add to my "other" vote: AK 47, for two reasons:
(1) Need to control for single, medium to long range head shots so as to not waste ammo (See, World War Z); and
(2) Due to the common caliber, the ability to recover ammo from the bodies of the unfortunate dead. (Same convenience would apply to 9mm handgun ammo - but use of a pistol lets them get to close.)

RPD reliable, portable and beltfed can use 50/100 belts on the move and 200 round bunker tins as well excellent!
