I quit drinking pop (soda) 5-10 years ago which has worked out fine. I don't miss it, but I do once in a while buy a bottle when I am traveling. It's convenient and we hope, healthful.
I number of years ago, a guy I knew freaked out at his post in Northern Nigeria. Here couldn't take the lack of sanitation, the flies, the heat the dust. He decided to hitch hike to Lagos where the Peace corps headquarters was. During the trip, c\which took him several days, he drank only Coke. It was the only thing that he thought might be reasonably safe. I'm not sure what the moral of this story is, but it does point out the incredible value of clean water (which people in many countries can only dream of) and how we take it for granted. As Joni Mitchel said...
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
They took all the trees
And put them in a tree museum
And they charged all the people
A dollar and a half to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And they put up a parking lot
Hey farmer farmer
Put away that D.D.T. now
Give me spots on my apples
But leave me the birds and the bees
Please
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
We live off the road system and collect rainwater off our warehouse that drains into an 11,000 gallon cistern. The water is gravity fed to our house, and is filtered using a micro-mesh. In town, folks drink water collected in a dammed muskeg, is filtered chemically, with added fluoride.

Fortunate to have good well water, I try to take some with me wherever I go.( I doubt its been tested for every possible agricultural contaminant though). I only use bottled water as a last resort.
I no longer live in the U.S., but grew up in the days when we drank water out of the tap.
Lead in water, why? Money, simple!
Money/profit has become God, and is killing us!
Bring back the old days when transportation, prisons, and water systems were operated by a caring local government.
Bring back the days when we weren't afraid to talk to a policeman.
Things haven't gotten better in the U.S., they've gotten more stupid.
And if Trump becomes president, woe be unto us!

Lobbyist advocating for cutting the Safe Water Act & Clean Water Act, benefit directly from not fixing old infrastructure for old community water systems. Their vested interest in bottled water further contaminates ground water by drawing toxins into the ground, massive use of plastics & transportation of that water furthers environmental destruction. We all need access to safe tap water. Privatization of water is literally killing us.
