From Baghdad to the Bay, it is an important story that it should be told. Ghazwan is a great symbol of many other voices and stories about refugees and individuals who lost everything they had and started again from square one for the sake of freedom and justice. Please vote for this movie and hear his story.

This whole story must be told. Ghazwan was our interpreter in Tikrit during the 2nd US Army rotation to Iraq. He worked for our US Army Engineer Brigade (I was the Commander) and was a huge contributor to our successes there. With his knowledge of the local people and organizations, we were able to get the former Iraqi offices that managed essential public services like water and sewage running again. By the time we left Iraq, the local public works department was building schools for villages, with Ministry of Education as the customer, with all the reasonable checks and balances we take for granted here in the US. Ghazwhan also had a 6th sense about where it was safe, and not. There's no doubt he saved our butts on a number of occasions. He was the most passionate believer in what we were trying to accomplish there on behalf of the Iraqi people, and this was in spite of the "special period" he went through after Saddam's capture. Unfortunately, while we had isolated "wins" like the one mentioned above, we also had many setbacks, and the insurgency that opposed what we were trying to do was just good at being patient and once we left overall, they came back in the form we're seeing today. Ghazwhan never let on about his sexual identity when he worked with us - I can only imagine how hard that was for him to keep that a secret. He really didn't have to - we all trusted him with our lives. I am so happy for him that he's found a life here in the US, but at the same time mourn his loss of connection to his family and the country that he truly did love. Talk to any Soldier who served in Iraq, and I'm sure if you can dig deep enough, besides the horrors of war, most also greatly appreciated the people and culture that spanned back to the earliest days of history. Most of us left a small piece of our hearts with the people of Iraq. May all the Iraqis who are left there eventually find a way out of the darkness they are currently in. There's a bright Iraqi light in San Francisco who just might be able to show them the way.

From Baghdad to the bay, a story of bravery, tolerance and inspiration, of a man who survived all life's challenges.
Well documented and a great picture.

@bartschland Is a fascinating art piece on top, but a reflection on what it means to be alive underneath -- the joy of survival at the edge of society. And the teaser is gorgeous.

Berlin Transgression's teaser is shockingly beautiful. Would love to see the completed film in theater. It has the potential to change how people view the queer community, and community as such.

A tight story line enhanced by the filmmaker's encompassing perspective, From Baghdad to the Bay opens a window both onto and into one individual's turbulent exile and re-invention. A must see!

Ghazwan's story is so important to the world...it's imperative that this film get's recognition and as large an audience as possible. To imagine that we still have honor killings in this day an age, disrespect for all human life and that this kind man is separated from his child is beyond my comprehension and breaks my heart. This movie could be a tour de force for change. Let it be so.
