I have been crossing the road, major roads actually since I was 5 years old. I'm still alive at 69 & haven't even been close to being hit. Why would that be? Because my mother taught me to keep my head up & look both ways when crossing the road. Why is it that the average citizen with just simple common sense has to be controlled by or he/she's life "dumbed" down by stupidest people in our society. How many times have you seen people in a crosswalk looking at their toes as they cross the road just because they pushed the button, as though somehow that button gave them a protective force field & thereby immune from being hurt by the traffic. Or someone gets hit at an intersection for whatever reason - stupid driver or stupid pedestrian - & next week the city puts up a red light! This further slows down & frustrates drivers. This I would argue this contributes to road rage, which leads to speeding which, some argue leads to more accidents. look up CBC's documentary on the experiment in B.C. & Ontario whether speed actually kills or causes more accidents. I'll save you some time; answer - no!. How 'bout Germany's Autobohn. Like it or not we're controlled by time; time of which we never seem to have enough. And we're dependent on the automobile; to save us time. That's not going to change in our lifetime. Unless you live in a hamlet of 50, few people can even buy bread or milk without having to drive. Everything is too far away, or we don't have time. We are addicted to & totally dependent upon our cars & getting to where we have to go - NOW. Trying to slow us down from getting to there from here is not happening, not now, not ever. And there will always be stupid people among us getting hurt. End of rant.
