The taupe/ wheat lacquer is stunning, and yet still feels more relaxed and less formal to me. It just seems more "natural" and more "southern" I think. It would beautifully showcase the lake views and gracefully feature the other elements of the room, too! Plus, I just love the idea of the blue/grey lacquer in a butler's pantry-- such a fun punch of color, and perfectly suited to the home you are planning, I think. Whatever you chose, it will be so lovely-- best wishes! From a southern transplant in coastal New England...

No question - go with the blue/gray. It has more depth and gives the room a cozier feel. I know that this isn't a house that will have cold winters like up north but you still want it to feel like a haven from the crazy pace of New York.

I love the blue/gray. To me it feels more like a study and gives more character. I also think being in the lake with the water would be a nice reflection. We are looking at places there too!
