This world would be a far better place if every socialist had been present at Jonestown in '78.

People always complain about taxes. Rarely does anyone actually want new ones or even the old ones...they act as if they are being punished or that all the things that taxes are used for in our society will somehow magically be looked after without taxes. Would we all complain if we had no hospitals, roads or schools? Well it is the same with this tax. Whether or not you 'believe' in science, most people that are worried about climate change are worried about it because they have read the science and spent time trying to understand what we can do to deal with emissions without totally destroying our economy. None of us want that. And we are tired of trying to do the right thing for our children and being attacked for it. Everyone seems to be saying "I'm right and you're an idiot" instead of sitting down and finding a way to solve what really is a crisis: the seas has risen, ice sheets are melting, glaciers are receding, the ocean in acidifying, reefs and fish are dying, temperatures are rising, extreme weather events including droughts and floods are increasing - everyone from scientists to the World Bank to NASA to the Pentagon views this as a major threat. It would be ridiculous to think that any of us want things to change. We have good lives. Fossil fuels have given us that but if we really want things to stay the same, things are going to have to change.

Big difference between a PST & a tax meant to curb GHG emissions & channel funds into a diversified economy. Hey guess what; renewable energy will still generate a lot of jobs!! Carbon Pricing worked in BC & it can work in Alberta too, (political biases aside). If your still part of the climate denial camp, time to start reading 'actual' climate science from people who have dedicated their education & life's career to being qualified expert in this feild, not opinion pieces or media editorial bias. Regardless of anyone's 'opinion' the Arctic is still melting, the oceans are becoming more acidic, the fires, droughts & floods are more intense, & atmospheric carbon levels have breeched any conceivable records etc etc... And this is all very clearly documented & related to anthropocentic induced climate change. Ignorance is no longer bliss, so certainly opting out of a few first world conveniences to balance out your (our) carbon budget is a small price to pay to help solve a really big global problem! Maybe some distant islander, local farmer, polar bear or even your own grandkids will thank you for your monumental sacrifice. There is a much bigger picture here, and brave leaders like Rachel Notley deserve to be commended for their actions, despite all the political backlash they will face. Then again aren't politics just based on opinions. Time for a wake up call! http://www.davidsuzuki.org/media/news/downloads/BC_Carbon_Tax_Reality_Check.pdf

Notley and Cici are possibly the worst politicians in the history of Alberta. Their arrogance is only exceeded by their ignorance.
