Would You Like To See Preference Points For Resident Hunters?

Anyone that can do math knows that the point system will be better odds of drawing a tag. Doug gave a perfect example that doesn't need to be repeated.People that talk about point creep are thinking of tags like moose and sheep where the odds are so much greater than a 25% draw area.

I'd rather see bonus points than preference points. If they do preference points than for 50% of the available tags max.

Point creep is the nasty byproduct of the point system. I think tag allotment revision is the key. People that live inside the county the majority of the area sits gets allocated the majority. As for general areas it's in county general out of county gets grouped in with nonresident general qoutas.

Move to Utah then tell me you want a point system! There are tags that you will never draw in your lifetime unless you are a max point holder!

Matt and Mike, YOU GUYS NEED TO educate yourelfs on how a point system works. You are both retarded. Let's take area 19 for an example. 25% draw? If you put in and don't draw, you get a point. So you will draw at least every 4 years(guaranted). Me nor my son has drawn in 10 years. Quit trying to convince people point systems don'twork. We live here, pay taxes. I know guys that have drawn 4 years in a row. Is that fair? All in staters deserve to hunt quota areas evenly. It is confusing guys saying with a point system their kids will never get to hunt when in reality it guarantees a tag.

These guys see the downfall of having the point system just right. I have been putting in for bull elk for 14 years and drew my first one this year and I want it to stay the same

I sent a letter to the Commission already but my kids have been putting in for a type 1 area 7 bull tag for a combined 21 years now (9 yrs, 7 yrs, & 5 yrs). In that time I've drawn three tags. Until this year none had drawn. My middle child finally drew this year. Very frustrating for a father (& children) who want to experience that first hunt/kill together in the area we've been scouting since they were barely walking. Would love to see preference pnts (esp. for kids) to increase their chances, or a set perctage dedicated to youth draw to insure greater success for Wyoming's youth, or ability to donate a tag to a youth. WGF promotes getting our youth in the outdoors- I'd love to see them do something to help!

There are a lot of options missing in this poll. I am for changing the current draw system for limited quota areas but not for eliminating the general areas.

I have drawn a type 1 deer tag, no type 1 elk tags in 14 years of putting in. To me I will take the odds of preference points as at least I know eventually I will draw.

Leave it alone, personally I think if you live in this state there should not be a problem drawing a tag, many who live here count on that to fill their freezer, instate should draw first, whats left goes to nonresidents. It seems more and more its about generating money, you want more money? Triple the price of nonresidents tags, let them pay for the priveledge to hunt in one of the last pristine places on earth with some of the highest quality game animals known to man.

Leave it alone its the luck of the draw

Why not make it that when an over the counter tag is purchased you have to pick one general area to hunt. Most people I see bounce around from area to area pressuring animals. Either that or implement and leave a 4 points or better for deer longer than 2 years. Make it indefinite. Also these out of state "regions" don't seem like that great of an idea either. Make them put in for one area just like the rest of the state does. I realize allot of the money comes from out of state hunters but that doesn't mean they should get to hunt 15% of the state with one tag.

1 bull tag in 12 years. Yet my friend draws three bull tags in 4 years. It's bs

Anyone advocating or voting for a points system please do some research. I questioned whether it would be something good years ago and found out it would not be for many reasons. The math and drawing odds don't work out like most people think. There are many states that have lots of problems with Point systems. There's no such thing as completely equal and fair tag distribution with a points system with all of the variables. But we can and do have a system that is completely equal and fair in opportunity. The game belongs equally to the residents of our state. If we want more tags than we need to cut out of state tags because the right belongs to the people of the state.

Guys and gals, if you think points are a good deal just talk to any resident of Utah, Arizona, Nevada.....and on and on. You'll draw once for sure, but who knows after that. 20 years to draw one stage in Colorado...19 years to draw one tag in Utah.. never drawn in Nevada,. But at least I'll draw ever 4-5 years in Wyoming.
    Play the odds.

It news to be easier for residents to get tags and harder for out of state ppl to get tags I understand they pay more for their tag but it's crap that they get tags all the time and I never get a tag

  • Jeni - 8 years ago

We need a better system, I went sixteen years without drawing an area 7 tag. Then I finally got one, and since then I haven't drawn for the last three years. If we had a points system you would be guaranteed a tag at least every three to four years.
