Should the Braves bring back Brian McCann?

Only bring him if the Yankees are eating most of his salary. Then sign a good free agent catcher in the off season. Then he could be a backup at catcher or first. And for all of you who said he left for the money, you would too if you could play for the Yankees and make money.

I think we could do a lot worse than bringing back Mac. If the Yankees are picking up most of the freight, it could work. He's not the same player he was 5 years ago, but still better than most. Until we find our next catcher, he's better than what we have and should be a positive influence on the younger guys, especially the pitchers.

NO ! Love BMac but he should not fit into rebuilding plans. His skills are diminished and cost is prohibitive. Stick with the present catchers or go free agent for a younger one. BMac left for the money, let him stay there

That's a stupid question unless we know the financial impact of any trade. I'd love to have Brian back if the price is right. Could add much needed power to the lineup.

No. That's a dumb move unless the Yankees eat his contract. Even if the eat his contract his measurables are on the decline. Decker and Flowers are a better option.

No! Heck no! When he would not catch Chippers first pitch because of Chippers comments about the team. He's no friend. No way! Keep him away

No! Unless the Yankee's are willing to absorb a good portion of his salary. But I don't think NY would take what the Braves would offer in return. I don't see it happening and I agree with another poster that it would be a huge step backwards.

I love Brian, but bringing him back will only reinforce that the Braves front office is in need of a total house cleaning.

No, despite baseball being sentimental in nature. It's always better to trade or release a guy a year too early than a year too late. The Yankees overpaid to begin with, no sense in bringing back a (good) guy who is in decline. A move like that would be backwards. He is in release mode, not pick up. Cruel, but age plays no favorites and, as you alluded to, a catcher is worn out at 33.

No,i would rather have Recker and Flowers for less money.McCann went 0 for 16 in playoffs his last year as a Brave.Still not over that.He is not worth the money to get him back

Glad to see the Nos have it right now. Overpriced, unless the Yankees chip in a huge portion of salary. The deal was bad in the first place, and it's not getting any better.

We need McCann's leadership the young players need leadership and if they can get a discount on him it would make sense.

Braves need a catcher who can throw out base runners, and McCann has never been good at that.
A good defensive catche,r who can mentor the Braes young pitchers and discourage base stealing,
is imperative for the braves the next 3 years or so. If he can hit, that would be good. Only Jonathan
    Lucroy fits that profile.

Rather spend more money on Lucroy than get McCann at a discount. Re-uniting Frenchy and Brian is a sentimental, feel good move, but a step backwards for the rebuilding braves.

I always liked Brian, but there are younger options available. The Kemp deal was done to get rid of a P.R. nightmare.

Would this be for nostalgic reasons? Nothing this team has done the last year and a half indicates this would make sense. We already have one veteran salary dump on the cheap in Kemp. I can't really seem them adding a second.

  • Ron - 8 years ago

He would make a great coach, but the Braves already have Eddie Perez.

  • Lester Barrett - 8 years ago

Hell no. He didn't want to stay to start with. Just money hungry. Forget him.
